Commercial Front Load Refuse Driver-3rd Shift

The Front Load Refuse Driver is responsible for the collection and removal of solid waste, recyclables, litter, and bulk trash across campus. Duties include operating trucks, tractors, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, and other equipment to ensure efficient waste management. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Operating front-load and rear-load trash trucks, skid steers, and dump trucks for waste and recycling removal.
  • Loading open-top boxes with skid steer equipment.
  • Placing front-load dumpsters at designated campus locations.
  • Training employees on the operation of rear and front-load trucks and safety procedures.
  • Assisting with the assembly of front-load trash dumpsters.
  • Serving as team leader in the absence of a supervisor and supervising student staff or temporary workers as needed.
  • Placing and removing containers for special events.
  • Acting as a liaison with customers and consulting with the manager to optimize daily trash and recycling routes for maximum efficiency.
  • Completing route sheets and performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:
10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, Monday through Friday. Hours, days, and/or location may change based on operational needs in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Position may require overtime and is subject to 24-hour emergency call.
Background Check:
Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of at least 7th grade education plus 600 hours of training or six (6) months of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Valid Ohio Driver License and Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience operating commercial front-load trucks.
  • Experience operating recycling and refuse equipment.
  • Proficiency in using tablets or similar devices to log hours and route data.

Additional Information:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.70-$29.63 per hour. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
