Job Summary: The Front End Manager is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all guests at the POS (Point of Sale) and at the Customer Service Desk. They ensure each customer leaves Pete's Fresh Market with an outstanding experience, while delivering a fast, friendly, and accurate transaction. They oversee and manage the front end team (cashiers, baggers, and cart attendants) while ensuring they comply with the company's operating policies and procedures. They are responsible for all opening or closing procedures in the front end, including but not limited to balancing cash drawers and the safe, preparing the store's daily deposits, completing all necessary administrative tasks. As a team member of Pete's Fresh Market it is important that Pete's Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service are always exemplified.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Provides fast, friendly, courteous and excellent customer services, handles customer relations, performs checking duties and supervisor functions on cash registers when necessary, and engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques. Serve as overflow cashier as necessary.
  • Directs and supervises front end activities including: monitoring customer traffic and service level, coordinates and implements front end and service programs, ensures cleanliness, safety and appearance of Front End physical area, and monitors inventories and ordering Front End supplies and merchandise. Ensures front end is operational and that it projects a positive image.
  • Handles and is accountable for cash flow and controls including: safe transactions, issues and pick-ups, cash register tills, approving checks, rain checks and refunds, and monitoring checker money handling procedures.
  • Handles scan system emergency procedures, UPC codes not on file, hard to scan UPC codes, scan pricing errors and system failures and other emergencies.
  • Assists with the interviewing and hiring of front end. Trains front end management, front end and courtesy clerks and monitors their compliance. Supervises employees assigned, makes recommendations for employment status changes and discipline to General Manager.
  • Responsible for achievement of budget goals for labor, cash variation, check expense and supplies.
  • Responsible for cost and quality control and maintaining a constant awareness of customer and employee safety.
  • Enforces dress and grooming standards for all employees.
  • Responsible for compliance to company policies, procedures and applications in the Front End.
  • Responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalency w/ 5 years of experience in grocery store, deli, or similar retail environment.
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Business a plus
  • People management training classes or experience
  • Sanitation License

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands
  • Must have the physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, bend and stoop to grasp objects, frequently push and pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.
  • Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing.
  • Must have reliable source of transportation.
  • The ability to be reached during/after work hours.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.
Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $15-$20
Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $16.60-$21
