What is a front end developer startup?

A Front End Developer Startup job involves building and optimizing the user interface of a web or mobile application in a fast-paced startup environment. Responsibilities include coding in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, working with frameworks like React or Vue.js, and collaborating with designers and back-end developers. Startups often require developers to be flexible, take ownership of features, and work on rapid iterations based on user feedback. This role typically demands both technical expertise and creative problem-solving to enhance user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front end developer startup?

To thrive as a Front End Developer Startup, you need strong skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Vue, often backed by a relevant degree or proven portfolio. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, as well as build tools and APIs, is essential, while certifications in web development can be beneficial. Adaptability, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to communicate effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative environment are key soft skills. These skills and qualities enable you to build responsive, user-focused interfaces and rapidly iterate while aligning with evolving startup needs.

What are the unique challenges a front end developer faces in a startup environment compared to larger companies?

Working as a Front End Developer in a startup often means tackling a wider variety of tasks, ranging from UI implementation and rapid prototyping to troubleshooting issues across the stack. You may have to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, work with minimal supervision, and frequently collaborate with designers, product managers, and sometimes even directly with back end developers or founders. The pace is fast, so flexibility and a willingness to learn on the fly are crucial. On the upside, this environment provides substantial opportunities to broaden your skill set, take ownership of features, and make a visible impact on the product’s direction.

Job description

Full-Stack Engineer, AI-Native Platform

Team Loves top schools.

Atheletes

Debate Winners and people that do hackathons at schools. Highly competitive team.

Location: Austin, TX
Work Style: Fully in-person
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 2–4 years preferred, open to more experienced candidates
Focus: AI Agents, Full-Stack TypeScript, AWS, Legal/Government Workflows

About Our Client

Our client is building an AI-native platform for complex legal and government workflows.

The company is hiring two full-stack engineers to join the team in Austin and help build production-grade agent systems from the ground up. This is not a traditional software engineering role where success is measured by how much code someone writes by hand. The team is building with coding agents at the center of the development process.

The right candidate will be defined by their ability to orchestrate AI tools, move quickly, think in systems, and ship production-quality software at a dramatically faster pace than a traditional engineering workflow.

About the Role

Our client is looking for Full-Stack Engineers who can operate in an AI-native engineering environment.

The platform is TypeScript-heavy across the full stack, with AWS infrastructure underneath. While technical depth matters, the core differentiator for this role is the ability to use coding agents, LLMs, and multi-agent workflows to ship at exceptional speed.

This is a strong fit for a builder who has worked in early-stage environments, enjoys ambiguous technical problems, and knows how to turn AI tools into real production leverage.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and ship full-stack product features across a TypeScript-heavy platform
  • Architect and orchestrate multi-agent systems across the product
  • Design agent coordination patterns for complex legal reasoning workflows
  • Build reliable, auditable agent pipelines for legal and government use cases
  • Ship agent systems into production
  • Use coding agents as a primary part of the engineering workflow
  • Work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and product experience
  • Contribute to UI/UX decisions and build intuitive workflows for complex users
  • Partner closely with the founding team to move quickly from idea to shipped product
  • Help define the engineering culture, AI-native development standards, and platform architecture

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–4 years of software engineering experience, ideally in startup environments
  • Strong Python and TypeScript experience
  • Strong understanding of LLM capabilities, limitations, and orchestration patterns
  • Experience using coding agents or AI development tools to ship faster
  • Systems thinking and the ability to break complex workflows into reliable architecture
  • Ability to operate with high ownership in a fast-moving, in-person startup environment
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a high raw-intelligence bar
  • Comfort working across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
  • Ability to start quickly
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX for fully in-person work

Strong Bonus Experience

  • Founder, founding engineer, or early engineer experience at a high-growth startup
  • Experience at a YC-backed or similarly high-velocity startup
  • Experience building AI products in legal tech, government technology, or regulated workflows
  • Open-source contributions to agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, OpenAI Swarm, DSPy, Instructor, LlamaIndex, or similar tools
  • Experience shipping multi-step reasoning, tool-use, or parallel agent orchestration systems in production
  • Experience with AI voting agents or multi-agent coordination patterns
  • Strong UI/UX sensibility
  • Personal side projects or demos showing production-quality multi-agent orchestration
  • Prior experience helping an early-stage company scale

Why This Opportunity

  • Join an early team building an AI-native platform in a complex, high-impact market
  • Work in an environment where coding agents are central to how software gets built
  • Own meaningful product and architecture decisions from day one
  • Build production-grade agent systems for legal and government workflows
  • Work across full-stack product development, agent orchestration, and AWS infrastructure
  • Join a fully in-person Austin team moving with urgency
  • Step into a role where speed, systems thinking, and AI-native execution are the main competitive advantages
