Job description

Candidates for Rigger will be trained in the following requirements:

  • Selection and use of wire rope, chain and synthetic web slings, rigging hardware, and lifting devices
  • Interpretation of rated  charts for rigging gear
  • Safe rigging practices and procedures
  • Hand and radio communications and the responsibilities of the Rigger in Charge
  • Determination of weight and center of gravity of loads
  • Selection and use of hoists, chain falls and come-alongs
  • Lifting and Handling gear inspection

Using the above acquired skills the rigger will be expected to support the following shipbuilding processes:

  • Support the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment on and off the ships
  • Responsible for lifting, moving and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads
  • Rig nuclear components
  • Working under radiological controls (obtain and work with a TLD). Provide emergency response to fires and accidents

Required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED or 2+ years relevant technical experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Candidates must be available for any shift.

  • Previous rigging experience

  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative Training Program
  • Candidates must be able to read and understand shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, etc.
  • Candidates must be able to work all shifts, perform high work.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
