Job description

Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name-the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.
What you'll do at DBH :
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
  • Provide executive leadership for all law enforcement, public safety, and security operations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Direct and assess security and law enforcement programs to ensure effective service delivery and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to promote a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Personnel Management & Development
  • Supervise and mentor command staff, including lieutenants and police officers.
  • Oversee staffing plans, scheduling, work assignments, and leave approvals.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and counseling, and administer corrective or disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and deliver training programs, professional development opportunities, and orientation related to safety, security, and departmental policies.
Budget & Administrative Management
  • Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets and expenditures.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources to support operational and organizational goals.
  • Maintain departmental records, reports, and administrative functions.
Compliance & Law Enforcement
  • Interpret, enforce, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and expertise on law enforcement, security, and risk management matters.
  • Serve as the department's primary authority on public safety and security operations.
Investigations & Risk Management
  • Lead and oversee investigations involving criminal activity, policy violations, and security-related incidents.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted thoroughly, professionally, and in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Review investigative findings, determine appropriate actions, and implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Meet regularly with executive leadership, including the CEO, to provide updates, recommendations, and resolutions related to investigations and security concerns.
Thi s is an exempt position , with a pay range of 13 on the Exempt Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within our Summit Behavioral Healthcare location, located at 1101 Summit Road, Cincinnati, OH 45237
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above

Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
Completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78(D) of revised code; 12 months training &/or experience in supervisory principles & techniques; valid driver's license.
Requires possession of certificate of having successfully completed approved peace officer training program
