Job description


Position Summary

The Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards, physician orders, and organizational policies.

This role is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based care throughout the surgical process, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, educating patients and families, and ensuring quality outcomes. The RN may also assist with staff orientation, mentoring, and departmental quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care.
  • Develop and update patient care and discharge plans based on clinical assessments.
  • Provide perioperative nursing care in accordance with physician orders, policies, and professional standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate patient care with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify care plans as needed.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment and recovery.
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Assist with staff orientation, mentoring, and training when appropriate.
  • Provide relief charge responsibilities when assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree, Diploma in Nursing, or higher.

Licensure

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or Compact RN license where applicable).

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Additional Certification

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire for positions assigned to pediatric ambulatory surgery services.
Experience

Full-Time / Part-Time

  • Minimum 1 year of licensed RN Operating Room experience, or
  • Successful completion of the PeriOp 101 Program within 4 months of hire (for RNs without OR experience).

PRN

  • Minimum 2 years of licensed RN Operating Room experience.

Preferred

  • Additional Operating Room or perioperative nursing experience.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and patient safety practices.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple patient needs in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 75 lbs., and safely assist patients throughout the workday.
