Job description

A well-established Chicago General Contractor is looking to add a Project Manager to its growing team.

This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to run meaningful Chicago projects without getting buried in corporate red tape or spending their life on the road. The company offers the support and resources of a larger contractor while maintaining a collaborative environment where your voice is heard and your impact is visible.

With a healthy backlog, respected leadership team and strong reputation in the Chicago market, this is an opportunity to build a long-term career with a stable, employee-owned business.

The Opportunity

As a Project Manager, you will lead projects from preconstruction through closeout, working closely with clients, architects, subcontractors and field teams.

Projects typically range from $10M–$75M+ across a variety of sectors, including:

  • Commercial
  • Healthcare
  • Multifamily
  • Education
  • Mixed-use
  • Light industrial

The position is based in Chicago, with projects concentrated throughout the city and surrounding suburbs. There is no road-warrior travel expectation, and the company offers the flexibility to work from home one day per week.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Strong pipeline of local Chicago work
  • Employee-owned business with an ESOP that has paid out approximately 10% annually for the past nine years
  • One work-from-home day each week
  • Projects large enough to be exciting without becoming a small piece of the process
  • Direct access to senior leadership
  • Clear path toward Senior Project Manager and Project Executive
  • Collaborative culture with low turnover
  • Strong field teams and established subcontractor relationships
  • Opportunity to take ownership of projects rather than simply manage paperwork
  • Modern systems and processes without an overly corporate environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • $125,000–$155,000 base salary
  • Annual performance bonus
  • ESOP with a strong nine-year track record of approximately 10% annual payouts
  • Vehicle allowance and gas reimbursement
  • One work-from-home day per week
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Four weeks of PTO
  • Paid parental leave
  • Phone and technology allowance
  • Regular company events and team outings
  • Long-term advancement opportunities

What They Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience with a General Contractor
  • Experience managing ground-up or large-scale renovation projects
  • Strong understanding of budgets, schedules, contracts and subcontractor management
  • Ability to communicate confidently with clients and project teams
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam or similar construction management software
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field preferred

The Bottom Line

This is a great opportunity for a Project Manager who wants to run high-profile Chicago projects, build long-term wealth through a proven ESOP and join a contractor that offers genuine flexibility without sacrificing career growth.
