Job Purpose
The Director of Racket Sports oversees all aspects of the tennis and pickleball programs, including instruction, league play, tournaments, merchandise operations, and tennis shop supervision. This role ensures exceptional service delivery, maintains facility standards, leads and develops racket sports staff, and drives participation and revenue through innovative programming and member engagement. The Director of Racket Sports plays a key leadership role in growing the tennis and pickleball programs and enhancing the overall member and guest experience.
Responsibilities
  • Manage all tennis and pickleball program offerings by organizing, promoting, and overseeing lesson programs, junior and adult tennis and pickleball programs, leagues, clinics, and competitions.
  • Lead tournament operations in partnership with the Tournament Director or Event Coordinator (if applicable), including preparation, staging, scoreboards, formats, and rule enforcement.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate racket sports operations staff; administer disciplinary actions as needed in accordance with American Golf policies and applicable laws.
  • Conduct operational and safety meetings to communicate new policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Maintain appearance, functionality, and safety of tennis and pickleball courts and surrounding areas by establishing and overseeing routine maintenance standards.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities, including creating and adhering to the annual departmental budget, preparing tournament and league financial reconciliations, and generating various reports as requested by management.
  • Ensure high-quality customer service within the tennis shop by overseeing or performing duties such as phone reception, court reservations, court sheet preparation, POS transactions, rental agreements, and shop opening/closing procedures.
  • Oversee tennis and pickleball merchandise operations including purchasing, pricing, display standards, sales promotions, discounts, and inventory/cost-of-sales reporting.
  • Market the tennis and pickleball programs by developing and executing promotions, special events, and advertising initiatives to increase participation and revenue.
  • Support the Membership Director by meeting prospective members, attending membership events, and assisting with membership sales efforts.
  • Implement and support all American Golf initiatives and programming as directed by management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience teaching tennis.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Background in customer service, hospitality, golf/tennis, or related service industries preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on member/guest satisfaction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic math proficiency required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • USPTA membership preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Schedule varies based on business needs; evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
  • Duties may involve prolonged standing, walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus
