Job description

Description
Chair of Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences (PQHS)
Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine (SOM) announces its search for the Chair of the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences.
The Dean and faculty consider this an exceptional opportunity to lead a preeminent department within the SOM and associated with our four affiliated health systems (Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, University Hospitals, and the Cleveland VA Medical Center) along with close collaboration with the other schools and colleges at CWRU and the broader Cleveland community.
CWRU SOM is seeking a visionary, dynamic and creative department chair, with a distinguished record of scientific and educational achievements, who can expand and lead a forward-looking multi-disciplinary Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences and its CWRU SOM faculty with expertise in computational data sets of human health risks, epidemiological health assessments, large scale genomics, EHR data sets, patient and population interventional sciences, biostatistics, artificial intelligence analytics, and the integration of large data sets with clinical decision making.
The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences is a large department comprising 34 primary faculty with an active research portfolio of over $18 M, that ranges from large population disease databases, to DNA sequencing and to community and population-based public health. Faculty represent a broad range of fields including bioinformatics, biostatistics, epidemiology, health services research, genetic epidemiology, community psychology, anthropology, community health, public health, and population health. The department offers masters and PhD training programs related to public health. The department oversees >200 trainees in four MS and three PhD programs in quantitative and population sciences, including a Masters of Public Health. Faculty actively participates in medical student education. The department maintains a robust external research portfolio from NIH, CDC, PCORI, foundation, and philanthropic sources.
For additional information regarding the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences please visit: https://case.edu/medicine/pqhs.
This highly collaborative faculty interacts across the departments of the SOM and its affiliated hospitals. The department sponsors and collaborates with several SOM Centers including the Institute for Population and Community Health, Swetland Center for Environmental Health, Prevention Research Center, the Cleveland Institute for Computational Biology, all led by primary departmental faculty, and the Center for Community Health Integration, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) of Northern Ohio, among others.
A generous benefits package is included, and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $300,000-$400,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. University employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent healthcare, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and paid time off.
The CWRU School of Medicine was founded in 1843. The University is located in Cleveland's University Circle, steps away from some of the nation's most prominent cultural institutions (including the Cleveland Museum of Art and Severance Hall, home to one of the most admired symphony orchestras in the world), beautiful parks, and eclectic restaurants.
Qualifications
The selected Chair will lead one of the nation's premier departments at the intersection of population health, quantitative sciences, data science, and community-engaged research. They will have the ability to foster and sustain research and educational collaborations and partnerships, both across our academic system and with communities and other external groups, as well as to promote innovation and integrate and apply knowledge using new informatic technologies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership in a university, medical center or research institute setting, and a strong track record of NIH and other federal funding. The candidate is expected to create and foster close collaborations and maintain and expand a high-performance faculty.
Application Instructions
Candidate qualifications include faculty rank of professor, with a degree at the PhD, MD or MD PhD level, a solid ongoing track record of NIH funded research and a strong national recognition in their field. Leadership experience in academic medicine is expected. Applications and nominations should include a: 1) curriculum vitae, 2) personal statement discussing areas of research, education, administration, and leadership, and 3) cover letter stating the candidate's interest in this leadership position.
All materials should be uploaded to Interfolio for confidential review by the search committee.
