Your Opportunity as the Lead Developer, IS Away From Home
The Smucker Information Services (IS) department enables technology solutions that help our business perform, transform, and grow. The Lead Developer, IS Away From Home, supports this mission by designing, building, and supporting the data and integration capabilities that power critical Away From Home (AFH) business processes.
This role serves as the technical lead for the Away From Home enterprise integration landscape. Responsibilities include designing and supporting cloud-based data pipelines, ETL processes, event-driven integrations, file-based integrations, and APIs that connect external partners, operational systems, reporting platforms, and business applications across the AFH technology ecosystem. The role will partner closely with Analytics, Sales Operations, Revenue Growth Management, Marketing, Customer Data, and other business functions to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure data solutions.
As a lead technical contributor, this position provides architectural guidance, technical leadership, and mentoring while helping drive modernization of AFH data and integration capabilities.
Location: Orrville, OH (Close proximity to Cleveland/Akron)
Work Arrangements: Hybrid - onsite a minimum of 9 days a month primarily during core weeks as determined by the Company; maybe more as business need requires
In this role you will:
Lead AFH Data Lake & Integration Solution Delivery
Delivering solutions:
  • Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of the AFH AWS Data Lake and enterprise integration landscape.
  • Design scalable cloud-based data pipelines, ETL processes, APIs, event-driven integrations, and file-based interfaces supporting critical AFH business processes.
  • Lead technical efforts and delivery activities for medium to large projects, including directing development resources when appropriate.
  • Build work plans and technical implementation strategies aligned to architecture and security principles.
  • Create technical solution designs, integration specifications, data mapping documentation, and implementation plans.
  • Evaluate and implement modern cloud technologies, integration patterns, and automation opportunities.
  • Lead integration, performance, and end-to-end testing efforts across multiple systems.
  • Provide technical leadership during deployments, production cutovers, and hypercare support activities.

Supporting and maintaining existing solutions:
  • Facilitate troubleshooting and resolution of complex integration, orchestration, performance, and data quality issues.
  • Support and maintain AWS Glue jobs, Lambda functions, Step Functions, S3-based integrations, APIs, and related cloud services.
  • Support data integrations involving external partners, vendors, customer data, product data, shipment data, claims data, and reporting platforms.
  • Facilitate development and maintenance of technical documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Champion overall supportability, reliability, and scalability of AFH data and integration capabilities.
  • Set expectations with business customers regarding service performance and support delivery.

Driving process excellence:
  • Model quality and consistency in execution while seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Implement improvements to development standards, release management processes, monitoring, and operational support practices.
  • Promote reusable integration patterns, code components, and automation solutions.
  • Drive adoption of DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and modernization efforts across the AFH technology ecosystem

Provide Technical Leadership:
Coaching and Mentoring:
  • Mentor and develop junior developers and technical resources.
  • Provide guidance during solution design, development, testing, and production support activities.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and technical growth across the team.

Technical Servant Leadership:
  • Act as the technical subject matter expert for AFH data and integration capabilities.
  • Provide input to architecture, platform, and technology decisions.
  • Coordinate technical activities across internal and external development resources.
  • Support critical business initiatives, including year-end processing and enterprise-wide projects requiring technical leadership.

What we are looking for
Minimum Requirements:
  • 5+ years of work experience as a developer, with either a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline or specialized training in Information Technology.
  • Proficiency with AWS technologies including Lambda, Glue, S3, Step Functions, CloudFormation, and related cloud services supporting data integration and processing.
  • Strong development experience using Python and SQL for data transformation, automation, and integration solutions.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data integrations, ETL processes, APIs, and file-based interfaces.
  • Experience delivering technical solutions throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience working within formal delivery methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, DevOps, or hybrid approaches.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex applications, integration, performance, and data quality issues.
  • Proficiency with source control, automated deployment, and CI/CD tools such as GitHub and GitHub Actions.
  • Understanding of data structures, relational databases, data modeling, data transformation, and integration patterns.
  • Ability to evaluate, estimate, and recommend technical solution approaches for complex business and technology requirements.
  • Ability to lead technical activities for medium to large projects while coordinating internal and external resources.
  • Ability to conduct integrated testing, debug solutions, and drive successful implementation and support activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor developers and provide technical leadership across a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
  • Experience supporting critical business operations and production support environments.

  • Experience with AWS Data Lake architectures and large-scale data processing solutions.
  • Experience with ETL and integration platforms such as SnapLogic, Informatica IICS, or similar technologies.
