Job description

Segra is searching for a qualified and experienced Infrastructure Senior Engineer to join us in a full-time capacity in our Kansas City, MO office.

Location Requirement:

The work arrangement for this role is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of three (3) days in the Kansas City, MO office, with flexibility to work remotely two (2) days each week.

Role Overview:

The Infrastructure Senior Engineer is a senior-level technical leader within the Information Technology department, responsible for architecting, optimizing, and securing business-critical infrastructure within the Segra IT network. This role focuses on high-availability design, automation at scale, and strategic infrastructure enhancements across corporate data centers, servers, and storage environments. As a technical expert and escalation point, the Infrastructure Senior Engineer leads complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proactive performance improvements. This role also collaborates with IT leadership to evaluate and implement emerging technologies, cloud integration strategies, and infrastructure automation. Additionally, this position mentors Level 1 & Level 2 engineers, contributes to governance and security compliance efforts, and plays a key role in developing best practices for infrastructure resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in enterprise infrastructure, automation, and security best practices while driving efficiency and innovation across IT operations.

Qualifications

ย 

Required Experience:ย ย 

  • 5+ years of experience using server and storage systems including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMware, Pure Storage, Rubrik, or other similar systems.
  • Virtualization experience required (ex., VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, etc.)
  • Must have prior scripting experience (ex., Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Experience with configuring and working with monitoring systems a plus, preferably VMware Aria Operations or Nagios XI.

Education:ย 

  • Associate's degree or bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security and 4-6 yearsโ€™ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field.
  • Certifications: One of the below would be a plus but not required based on experience
    • Microsoft Fundamentals
    • CompTIA (Server+, Network+, Security+).

Key Competencies:ย 

  • Hands-on data center experience is highly preferred (ex., Cisco UCS, etc.)
  • Computer Skills - Experience with personal computers, networking, hardware, software, firewalls/DMZ, active directory, backups/disaster recovery/contingency planning, server consolidation, virtualization, high availability, and load balancing
  • Windows server/storage environment administration of workstations, servers, Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, automated patching solution, software delivery, , Antivirus Security, Group Policy Management
  • Virtualization technologies - VMWare host and guest configuration
  • Understanding of networking including VLAN and VXLAN technologies helpful
  • Understanding of firewall technologies helpful
  • Storage Systems (SAN and NAS) appliances
  • Self-motivated and driven to improve professional and technical knowledge while recommending best practices and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices in meeting corporate business requirements
  • Experience in the implementation of standards, procedures, and guidelines to support operational processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy
  • Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines
  • Certifications preferred but not required. CompTIA Network+ or Security+, Microsoft MCSA or higher certification; VMWare VCP certification or other related certifications
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds as part of regular job duties
  • Must be willing and able to travel to data centers as needed for job responsibilities
