Position Overview

The Impact Manager will work with the Impact Team to lead and develop a team of AmeriCorps members (ACMs) as idealistic, emerging leaders and practitioners focused on strengthening schools and supporting students to improve performance. On a daily basis, the Impact Manager will lead, coach, and develop AmeriCorps members while building strong school partnerships, monitoring student impact data, and ensuring high-quality implementation of City Year's Whole School Whole Child model to support student success every day. The Impact Manager will report to the Managing Director of Impact (MDI) and will manage two (2) teams of AmeriCorps members of approximately 15-20 people.
The Impact Manager will work primarily from school sites in our partner districts either in East Palo Alto or East San Jose. There will also be occasions in which the Impact Manager will work from our office in Sunnyvale.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience managing young adults, leading programming, or supervising teams in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to coach and hold individuals accountable to goals and expectations

  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and data-informed decision-making skills with a commitment to educational equity and leadership development

  • Requires a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to fulfill travel expectations associated with the role

  • Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America

  • Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children, depending on the position

Responsibilities

The Impact Manager will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:

AmeriCorps Member Leadership & Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop AmeriCorps members to support their leadership growth, professional development, and service performance

  • Provide ongoing feedback, accountability, and individualized support while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture grounded in City Year values

  • Support conflict resolution, team collaboration, and continuous learning through a growth mindset approach

School Partnerships & Student Impact

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school administrators, teachers, and community stakeholders to support shared student success goals

  • Oversee the implementation of academic, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional interventions aligned to City Year's Whole School Whole Child model

  • Utilize student and program data to monitor progress, inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement efforts

Program Implementation & Operations

  • Support the planning and execution of tutoring, enrichment activities, after-school programming, and school-wide initiatives

  • Ensure AmeriCorps members have the resources, communication, and operational support needed to effectively serve students and schools

  • Coordinate logistics, event planning, and program expectations to ensure high-quality service delivery

Organizational Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with teammates and cross-functional partners to achieve shared organizational goals

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts for prospective and returning AmeriCorps members

  • Participate in organization-wide events, trainings, service projects, and additional responsibilities assigned to advance City Year's mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years experience in youth development, education, or nonprofit programming

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace platforms

  • Experience using data tracking systems and facilitating team trainings or meetings

  • City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus

Physical requirements

  • Ability to be physically present on school campuses and in office environments during scheduled work hours

  • Ability to move throughout classrooms, school campuses, and community spaces to support students, staff, and program activities throughout the workday

  • Ability to remain standing, actively supervise students indoors and outdoors, and participate in school-based activities for extended periods of time, including during varying weather conditions

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while completing administrative tasks, communication, reporting, and data entry

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move instructional materials, supplies, and event materials up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to effectively operate computers, office equipment, and instructional technology

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, virtually, and by phone with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders, including sufficient vision and hearing to perform essential job functions

Working Conditions

  • Operates in a dynamic school-based and professional office environment using standard office and instructional technology equipment

  • Position requires regular on-site presence at partner schools, with occasional work in office, community, or event settings

  • May require local travel between school sites, the City Year Bay Area office, service events, and community partner locations

  • Typical schedule is Monday-Friday during standard school and business hours, with occasional early mornings, evenings, or extended hours to support events, trainings, after-school programming, or organizational initiatives

  • Work environment may include moderate to high noise levels common in active school settings, classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and large group activities

  • Requires the ability to adapt to both indoor and outdoor work environments and changing school schedules or priorities

  • Must have reliable internet access and the ability to effectively utilize virtual communication platforms for meetings, training, and remote collaboration when applicable

Compensation

  • This is a non-exempt role with an hourly range of $28.85 - $32.45.
