Job description

Turn your passion for the outdoors, sports, or fashion into a world-class career.
At SCHEELS, we don't just sell gear-we live it. As a leader in the sporting goods industry, we are driven to create the best experience in the USA for our customers. We empower our associates to become true experts through extensive product training, mentorship, and professional development. If you "walk the walk" and love helping others find their next favorite hobby, you belong at SCHEELS.
What You'll Do
As a Hunting Manager, you are the face of the SCHEELS experience. Your day will be a mix of high-energy customer interaction and strategic business operations:
  • Be the Expert: Provide unmatched customer service by sharing deep product knowledge and helping customers find exactly what they need.
  • Drive the Business: Meet personal sales goals, analyze inventory trends, and make decisions on merchandise arrangements to keep our floors looking world-class.
  • Own the Floor: Maintain a professional environment by stocking merchandise, setting up eye-catching displays, and collaborating with vendors.
  • Never Stop Learning: Participate in weekly product knowledge meetings and facilitate training for your peers.

The Perks & Benefits
We don't just offer a job; we offer an investment in you. At SCHEELS, you aren't just an employee-you're an owner.
  • Become an Owner: Join our 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) at no cost to you. You'll start earning ownership after your first year (1,000 hours) and become fully vested in just three years. Continue to build wealth with 401(k) options (eligible after your first quarter).
  • Comprehensive Health Support: We invest in your wellbeing by paying 75% of your health plan premium, contributing directly to your HSA, and offer a full insurance suite including Dental, Vision, and Accident/Hospital Indemnity. These benefits kick in quickly-starting the first of the month following your first 60 days.
  • Balance & Support: Enjoy 15 days of PTO (prorated based on your start date) and 6 paid holidays, plus maternity, parental, and bereavement pay.
  • Best Discount in Retail: Access our "famous" associate discount on the premium brands you love.
  • Community Impact: Get paid to give back! Beyond monthly paid volunteer time, you'll receive $500 annually to donate to a charity of your choice.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who take pride in their work and treat every customer like the most important person in the building.
  • Backwoods Expert: You bring a deep background in big game, waterfowl backcountry hunting, giving you the firsthand experience to help assist our customers.
  • A Natural Connector: You break the "hard-sell" mold by easily sparking genuine conversations and building lasting relationships with fellow hunters through shared stories and expertise.
  • Culture Fit: You arrive early (10 minutes is our standard!), bring high energy, and have a genuine desire to help others.
  • Skills: Basic math and communication skills are essential for sales and reporting.
  • Physicality: This is a "heavy work" role. You should be comfortable standing, walking, and occasionally lifting/moving up to 100 lbs.
  • Education: High school diploma (or GED) and 1-3 months of related experience are preferred.

Schedule & Compensation
  • Hours: Average of 42 hours per week.
  • The Shift: Includes a mix of opening shifts (Between 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM) up to 2 closing shifts (12:00 PM - 9:00 PM), and a set day off each week.
  • Weekends: Minimum of every other weekend (Saturdays between 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM; Sundays 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM).
  • Pay: The salary rate posted is the approximate annual salary that includes personal sales commission and a base hourly wage.

Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
