Job description
The Management Trainee position is a rotational position that focuses on building a strong technical foundation in feedyard operations. The time in each department will vary based on the operational needs of each department and the employees development. The Management Trainee will develop an understanding of the operational tasks of each department to prepare for a role leading a team or managing a department in the future.

Feed
- Learn and operate a feed truck, deliver feed to the correct pens, efficiently to ensure proper feeding times are met.
- Learn how to monitor feed intakes, bunk conditions, cattle behavior to feed presentation and schedule ration step-up programs, based on variables such as day son feed, gender, weather, breed, etc.
- Assist the feed callers with reviewing the daily agenda for pen ships, moves, and transfers along with ensuring newly received and re-implanted cattle are fed in a timely manner by coordinating with the cattle department.
- Develop understanding and implement proper animal handling when moving cattle from receiving pens to working area and to home pens.
- Assist with the review and preparation of daily agenda for cattle movements.
- Assist with the preparation of receiving records for input into cattle management system, distribution of processing orders, tags and other necessary products required for each lot.
- Learn and understand the protocols for each class of cattle such as breed, gender, and origin.
- Learn and understand the operations in the hospitals, completing hospital pen rotations, treating sick cattle based on protocols, and ensuring cattle return home timely.
- Learn and understand how to import individual cattle treatments into cattle management system.
- Maintain adequate drug inventory.
- Develop the skills to identify sick cattle and make the necessary pulls from home pens.
- Learn how to safely operate equipment, front end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, etc.
- Learn to accurately batch feed in a timely manner.
- Develop and understand the equipment required to process grain and ensure proper milling is performed.
- Assist with performing quality control on all incoming feed ingredients and monitor commodity inventories.
- Assist with the preparation and completion of preventative maintenance schedules.
- Develop an understanding of all equipment required to maintain feed yard facilities, front end loads, tractors with implements, mowers etc.
- Assist with the yard repairs and housekeeping of pens, bunk pads, roads and alleys, fences, water tanks, etc.
- Assist with preparation and completion of preventative maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA/ Safety procedures, rules and regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly safety meetings and safety committee meetings.
- Communicate issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.

- Regularly required to work 10-12 hours per day
- Frequently required to climb or maneuver into equipment or around facilities.

- Bachelor’s degree, Agriculture or Business related preferred, or relevant industry experience.
