Description

Job Summary: 

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care and supports physicians and clinical staff to ensure safe, high-quality care. The RN assesses patient needs, educates patients and families, and maintains accurate clinical documentation while following all regulatory and safety standards. 


Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A 


Reports to: Back Office Team Leads, Practice Administrator and Physicians 


FLSA Status: Nonexempt  

Requirements

Essential Functions: 

  • Monitors and responds to triage calls in person and/or on the nurse phone line. 
  • Talks directly to patients on the telephone and then directs them to emergency rooms (ERs), urgent care centers or treating physicians as needed. 
  • Determines urgency of seeing the patient based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patient's condition and history. 
  • Provides appropriate home health advice to patients who do not need to go directly to the ER based on guidelines created by physicians and the company. 
  • Ensures accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients' records via Electronic Health Record (EMR) system. 
  • Arranges appointments for patients who do not need to go to ER but need to see a physician. Consults with physician as needed. 
  • Acts, when designated, in "Ask a Nurse" capacity, handling routine information requests from patients, e.g. "I just received a vaccine, am I still able to come in for my mammogram?" 
  • Assists physicians with office visits not limited to fetal non-stress tests, wound checks, voiding trials and UTI visits. 
  • Reviews and responds as appropriate to provider portal messages. 
  • Serve as a clinical resource and professional role model for other nursing staff. 
  • Prioritizes work tasks and services and completes tasks in a timely manner. 
  • Assists in medical chart reviews and compiling data for audits and reports. 
  • Remains current with healthcare trends and policy updates set forth by government health agencies to provide up-to-date best practices with patients. 
  • Maintains accurate, clear and concise progress notes/phone notes within EMR system. 
  • Communicates appropriately and tactfully with staff, consultants, patients, family members, and community. 
  • Reduce conflict and increase patient satisfaction whenever possible through timely response to calls. 
  • Participates in staff, planning, in-service, and other meetings as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Completion of RN or LPN certificate or degree from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience working in an OB/GYN office environment by doing telephone triage. 
  • Current RN or LPN licensure, with no sanctions, restrictions, or provisions, in the state of Georgia. 
  • EMR experience required, knowledge of Epic EMR is preferred 

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN). 
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations of licensure. 
  • Minimum of two years (2) full-time experience as a RN Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). 
  • 2-3 years of OB/GYN medical practice or labor & delivery experience and knowledge. 
  • Strong clinical assessment skills 
  • Previous telephone triage experience using electronic triage software and computerized medical protocols is considered an asset. 
  • Exceptional computer skills within a Windows environment and keyboarding ability 
  • Demonstrated EMR knowledge - experience with Epic EMR preferred. 
  • Skilled in organization, customer service, and attention to detail. 
  • Possess exceptional communication and relational skills. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or another language will be considered an asset. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending. 
  • Must be able to lift 15-25 pounds at times.? 
  • Must have full range of body motion.
