Job description

Are you a skilled paralegal with experience in probate law who thrives on adventure, organization, and attention to detail? At Mueller Christensen LLP, we’re looking for someone to help guide clients through the perilous paths of probate administration and trust litigation. Think of this position as the Samwise Gamgee to our Frodo: indispensable, resourceful, and always ready to rise to the occasion. If you’re ready to combine your legal expertise with our unique, nerd-friendly, hard-working culture, this is the opportunity for you!

What Makes This Position Awesome

  • Hybrid Flexibility: While some tasks require in-person work at our Lake Forest, CA office, much of your work can be done remotely. (Work from home, Rivendell, or your favorite Shire-like coffee shop.)
  • Personality-Friendly Fellowship: Whether you’re a Hobbit, Dwarf, Elf, Wizard, Orc, or something in between, we embrace individuality. We love nerdy quirks, creative minds, and people who make the workplace fun.
  • Growth Opportunities: With mentorship from experienced attorneys, this role is perfect for someone looking to advance their paralegal career.
  • Tangible Impact: Your work will directly influence the outcomes of cases that make a difference in people’s lives.
Compensation:

$70,000 - $90,000 yearly

Responsibilities:

You’ll play a critical role in the firm, supporting our attorneys and working with existing staff in the following areas:

Estate Administration

  • Document Preparation: Draft and file probate judicial council forms, petitions, inventories, and accountings.
  • Asset Management: Work directly with clients to help gather and manage information about the decedent’s assets and debts.
  • Communication: Serve as a bridge between beneficiaries, creditors, and court personnel.
  • Distribution: Assist in distributing assets to beneficiaries (no Rings of Power, though).
  • Calendar and track critical deadlines across multiple, concurrent matters.

Trust Litigation

  • Legal Research: Research trust laws and relevant case law.
  • Document Drafting: Aid in the preparation of motions, supporting papers, and pleadings for trust litigation cases.
  • Case Management: Keep case files organized, indexed, and battle-ready.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, gathering crucial information, and keeping them in the loop.
  • Trial Preparation: Assist in preparing for trial, including organizing exhibits and maintaining a strategic edge.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2-3 years working as a paralegal in California probate administration and/or trust litigation.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of California Probate Code, Judicial Council probate forms, and court filing procedures in Los Angeles and/or Orange County probate courts.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program or equivalent education/experience.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and the organizational discipline to manage multiple active matters without dropping a deadline.

About Company

Mueller Christensen LLP is a growing boutique litigation firm based in Torrance, CA, with an additional office in Lake Forest. We’re an early-stage and growing firm of creative, curious litigators focused on Civil Litigation, Probate & Trust Litigation, Professional Liability, and Appeals. We represent a range of clients, from Major League Baseball organizations and law firms to businesses and individuals, across a focused set of practice areas where we do our best and most meaningful work.

Our culture is smart, direct, and a little bit nerdy. We value strategy as much as storytelling, candor as much as craft, and we believe great teams, like great stories, need all kinds of advocates.
