Salary: $50,000 to $75,000 (depending on background and experience)

What You'll Do:
  • Proofread, edit, and recommend revisions as needed for all Office reports and other documents as requested to help ensure they consistently follow the Office's writing style, including flow, sentence structure, abbreviations, citations, etc.
  • Improve the readability and clarity of governmental writing, including reports, alerts, and other documentation regarding State agencies, school districts, universities, counties, community college districts,  and other public and federal entities.
  • Ensure our publications, which deliver governmental information, are accessible to a broad audience, including the general public and legislators, and especially the entities they are specifically aimed toward guiding.
  • Prioritize and manage strict, often overlapping deadlines to help ensure documents are issued by their due dates.
  • Develop and maintain the Office writing style guidance. 
  • Assist with writing letters and other documents as requested.
  • Proofread corrections to ensure that they have been made accurately.
  • Conduct or assist with staff training sessions on basic writing and editing skills.
  • Remain current with spelling and grammar trends and making recommendations that keep the Office's writing style relevant. 
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or related field.
  • Innate tendencies to be thorough, precise, accurate, and detail oriented.
  • Quality-driven mindset.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • An excellent command of the English language and knowledge of English usage, including the application of grammar and style rules.
  • Ability to change focus frequently and manage ever-changing deadlines.
  • Strong interest in public service and improving State and local governments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
