Job description

SUMMARY:

The Senior Pharmacy Account Executive (PAE) serves as the lead integrated pharmacy benefits subject matter expert supporting Cigna Pharmacy clients within an assigned geographical market, concentrated in Florida. This role is uniquely aligned as a dedicated pharmacy account leadership position that serves as the primary pharmacy contact for all client and producer relations and owns full leadership, strategic, and retention activities for integrated pharmacy clients.

The Senior PAE is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, including the medical sales teams and pharmacy underwriting organization, as well as external brokers and consultants. The primary objective of this position is accountability for long-term client retention and growth, while achieving Cigna's corporate strategic goals. The Senior PAE also provides pharmacy benefit and product expertise in partnership with the clinical account executives, medical sales teams, and the pharmacy implementation organization.

This position is responsible for working with Cigna Pharmacy’s most sophisticated national accounts - many with unique custom requirements, pricing or service guarantees – while working with multiple internal stakeholders at Cigna and Evernorth, as well as external influencers (e.g. consultants, producers and decision makers in the Benefits organization and/or the Financial and/or C-Suite of our clients).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and retain an assigned book of business through renewal strategy, portfolio management, pricing, affordability solutions, performance guarantees, and client risk assessment.

  • Serve as the pharmacy subject matter expert and strategic partner to the medical sales organization, supporting pharmacy-specific client strategies and complex renewals.

  • Lead and participate in client, broker, finalist, and executive meetings to review performance, present solutions, and drive pharmacy growth and retention.

  • Promote and educate stakeholders on pharmacy products, services, clinical programs, and the value of integrated healthcare solutions.

  • Develop and deliver pharmacy-related business plans, performance reviews, value summaries, market updates, and product presentations.

  • Provide consultative analysis of pharmacy claims utilization, financial performance, rebates, guarantees, and cost-management opportunities.

  • Act as the primary escalation point for pharmacy service, clinical, and member issues, partnering with internal teams to resolve concerns.

  • Support pricing, audit, contract, implementation, and non-standard offering requests while ensuring compliance and operational excellence.

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of pharmacy-related client contracts, ASO agreements, RFP responses, reports, and communications.

  • Gather, analyze, and share competitive intelligence to support retention and new business opportunities.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, brokers, consultants, leadership, and cross-functional partners.

  • Communicate complex information clearly, manage competing priorities, solve problems using data-driven insights, and support evolving client and business needs.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Master’s degree a plus

  • 5+ years Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) experience supporting client expectations

  • 5+ years of experience with the financial and pricing strategy of PBM

  • Operational understanding and competence with PBM business model

  • Prior experience in Finance, Underwriting, Broker or Manufacture Relations preferred

  • Technical skills using all Microsoft programs

  • Experience with consultative client management methodologies

  • Proven ability to manage through a renewal independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work through the organizational processes needed to support clients (e.g. clinical in nature, exceptions, etc.)

  • A self-motivated individual displaying ownership, accountability and responsibility

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time depending on candidate’s location with little or no advance notice

  • Candidate must be located in FL or an adjacent state

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 124,100 - 206,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.

At The Cigna Group, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive range of benefits, with a focus on supporting your whole health.

Starting on day one of your employment, you’ll be offered several health-related benefits including medical, vision, dental, and well-being and behavioral health programs.

  • We also offer 401(k), company paid life insurance, tuition reimbursement, a minimum of 18 days of paid time off per year, paid holidays, and leaves of absence.
