Lakeview's Assistant Directorย supports the Child Development Center Director in the daily operations of the program while helping ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. This position provides administrative, operational, and program support, assists with licensing compliance and family engagement, and serves as a resource for team members while promoting the mission, vision, and values of Lakeview Village.

Job Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  • Provides administrative support to the Director in the day-to-day operation of the Child Development Center (CDC), including deposits, scheduling, paperwork, marketing, and other operational functions.
  • Maintains and monitors adequate classroom supplies and orders materials from Central Supply as needed.
  • Relays parent communications and inquiries to the appropriate staff members in a timely manner.
  • Supports the Director in managing daily CDC operations.
  • Provides direction and support to CDC staff in the Director's absence.
  • Provides classroom and kitchen duties (food distribution/running dishwasher), coverage as needed and requested by the Director.
  • Helps develop, implement, and support the intergenerational program at Lakeview Village.
  • Ensures the CDC consistently meets the goals of the intergenerational program.
  • Supports compliance with all KDHE child care licensing regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Supports the monitoring, coordination, and development of CDC team members to ensure effective program operations.
  • Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of children at all times, including conducting health checks, administering medications as authorized, and monitoring expiration dates for long-term medications.
  • Creates and maintains a warm, safe, orderly, clean, and engaging learning environment that encourages exploration and development.
  • Interacts positively with children individually and in groups, encouraging participation through developmentally appropriate practices and consistent positive guidance techniques.
  • Ensures that children are appropriately and adequately supervised at all times.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with children, families, and caregivers.
  • Responds appropriately to parent and child concerns, documents and follows up on issues, and communicates concerns to the Director as needed.
  • Must possess an Associates or Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Early Childhood Development, Human Development, or Elementary Education.

  • Kansas Director Certificate for up to 60 students, up to 100 students preferred. Must be in good standing with KDHE licensure.

  • Minimum five yearsโ€™ experience working in a licensed childcare facility or preschool program.

  • Current certification CPR and First Aid training for Pediatrics

  • Must have the ability to create and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for Early Childhood Education.

  • Demonstrates good communications skills, including but not limited to effective reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills, with a fluent understanding of English.

  • Must pass pre-employment screening and fingerprint background checks.

  • Demonstrates leadership skills and mentor-like qualities.

  • Outstanding customer service and strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task is required and manage multiple situations effectively.ย 

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks appropriately, and exercise sound judgement where procedures cannot be standardized.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Proficiency with classroom technology (iPads, Laptops)

  • Possesses an empathetic approach to children.

  • Able to work in a team setting with children, teachers, residents, volunteers, and parents.

  • Requires ability to sit on the floor, lift, bend, and stoop to low level positions that best allow interactions with the students.ย 

  • The ability to twist, turn, walk, climb and descend stairs, run, and jump; able to lift (up to 40 lbs.) and hold young children; requires strength to push a six-seat stroller (up to 140 lbs.).

  • Able to be outdoors during warm and cold weather.

  • May be exposed to chemicals, odors, or body substances.

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
