Engineering Internship - Summer 2026
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Internship
Location: Rockford, IL
Compensation: $18.00 - $25.00 / hour
Description
Are you eager to work on a diverse range of engineering projects? Fehr Graham is a fast-growing Midwest engineering and environmental firm seeking motivated Civil Engineering students who are eager to learn and work on a wide range of projects, including municipal engineering and environmental engineering.
If you're driven by curiosity, committed to making an impact, and passionate about delivering personalized service, we'd be proud to have you on our team.
What's in it for you?
If you're eager to learn, excited to make a real impact, and passionate about helping others, we'd love to have you join us as an intern. This is your chance to grow your skills, gain hands-on experience, and be part of a team that values your unique perspective.
Where you'll work
The position is based in one of our 11 local offices in IL, IA & WI. At Fehr Graham, we believe that a fulfilling career includes more than just great work-it includes balance, connection, and fun. That's why work-life balance isn't just a phrase here; it's part of our Core Values. We celebrate wins big and small, enjoy team-building activities, and unwind with after-hours outings that bring us closer together. Each of our offices is filled with positive energy, collaboration, and a genuine sense of community. We encourage our teams to support one another-professionally and personally-because we know that when people feel valued and connected, they perform at their best. If you're looking for a place where you can grow, have fun, and feel at home, Fehr Graham is the place for you.
What you'll do
As an intern, you will report to a Fehr Graham Project Manager on one or several projects. That Project Manager will ensure your internship is enriching and relevant to your coursework.
You'll help with construction observation, including measuring quantities and ensuring construction is completed to standards. There may be opportunities for exposure to surveying. You'll review and edit engineering plans to create a product that meets Fehr Graham standards. Depending on the project, office or fieldwork will be required. Office duties will allow you to sharpen your CAD skills, complete basic design computations and help the project team complete deliverables. You will learn engineering standards and how state and local regulations are incorporated into design through work in the office and in the field. We promote a team environment, so you'll collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists and many more people. And you'll develop leadership skills that build autonomy.
What it takes
The best intern candidates are self-starters and eager to learn.
  • You must be pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Civil Engineering.
  • You must be familiar with or able to read blueprints.
  • You should work well independently and within a team.
  • You should speak and write well.
  • And you should have strong analytical and organizational skills. You must be a team player.

  • Medical/dental/vision
  • Life insurance

  • 401K Retirement Plan
  • Profit-sharing bonus plan
  • Paid time off
  • An awesome work environment.
