Birch Meadows Home Care is looking for In-Home Caregivers who are genuinely self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable taking initiative — even when no one is watching. In this role, you'll work independently in clients' homes, which means we need people who notice what needs to be done and do it without being asked, who show up consistently and on time, and who know how to guide a client with confidence and kindness when the situation calls for it.

Responsibilities

A great in-home caregiver doesn't wait to be told what to do — they walk in, assess what the client needs, and get to work. Responsibilities include:

·         Assist clients with daily living activities such as getting in and out of bed, bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, toileting, oral care, nail care, standing, walking, and exercising — based on the agreed-upon care plan.

·         Provide light housekeeping and routine household tasks (dusting, sweeping/mopping, dishes, laundry, changing linens, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms, etc.) in areas occupied by the client.

·         Plan and prepare balanced, healthy meals that account for any dietary restrictions.

·         Assist with and encourage good personal hygiene.

·         Support the client's mental engagement through activities and conversation.

·         Remind clients to take medications and loosen caps as needed — note: caregivers do not administer medications.

·         Identify changes in the client's condition that may need medical attention; contact the Executive Director and responsible party and call 911 when warranted.

·         Complete thorough documentation: client appearance and mental state, activities, meals, bathing, toileting, and any changes in condition.

·         Ambulate and transfer clients using appropriate assistive devices and proper body mechanics.

·         Recognize and support clients' right to make choices within the boundaries of their agreed-upon care plan.

·         Use good judgment to manage unexpected situations — staying calm, acting thoughtfully, and communicating clearly.

·         Gently redirect clients who are confused, resistant, or unsafe, using patience and a kind but steady approach.

·         Maintain a safe home environment and report any hazards or concerns.

·         Follow the client's assignment sheet and care plan consistently.

·         Maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

·         Attend required trainings and in-services.

Responsibilities will vary based on each client's individual needs and family requirements.

Physical Demands

·         Requires heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50+ lbs.

·         Sitting for more than two (2) hours at a time.

·         Bending and/or stooping for more than four (4) hours at a time.

Qualifications

·         Self-motivated and proactive: you stay busy, spot what needs doing, and handle it — no micromanagement needed.

·         Highly reliable: you show up on time, every time. Your clients and their families count on you.

·         Confident and kind: you're comfortable taking gentle charge — redirecting a confused client, making a judgment call, or flagging a concern — without being harsh or overbearing.

·         Compassionate and respectful: you genuinely care about older adults and treat them with dignity.

·         Strong interpersonal skills: patience, active listening, and the ability to build trust quickly.

·         Physically capable: endurance and strength for the full demands of the role.

·         Dependable transportation: required — you must be able to reliably reach client homes within our service area.

·         Flexible and committed: willing to work an assigned schedule including some weekends; arrive 15 minutes early and work overtime as needed.

·         Team-oriented: able to work well with other employees and communicate effectively with the office.

·         Experience: prior caregiving experience preferred but not required — we provide paid training for the right person.
