Job description

API Lifecycle Automation Developer
ROLE
We need an experienced API Lifecycle Automation Developer at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This position supports the IRS Enterprise API Gateway Modernization and Operations (EAGMO) effort, automating API onboarding and lifecycle management. In this role, you will design and maintain automated onboarding workflows integrated into approved CI/CD pipelines, including registration, access approval, provisioning, and RBAC enforcement. You will build configuration as code artifacts for API lifecycle management, develop Developer Portal capabilities, implement automated governance and Zero Trust validation checks, and maintain API standards documentation, working toward mandated onboarding automation targets. This is a full time opportunity. We can offer a competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package. Appy today!
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs, develops, and maintains automated API onboarding workflows integrated into approved CI/CD pipelines, including registration, access-approval routing, gateway configuration provisioning, and RBAC enforcement.
  • Builds and maintains configuration-as-code artifacts supporting API lifecycle management (creation, versioning, deprecation, retirement).
  • Develops and integrates Developer Portal capabilities such as searchable API catalog, documentation, usage instructions, self-service access request workflows — and ensures integration with enterprise identity/access management.
  • Implements automated governance and Zero Trust validation checks within onboarding/migration pipelines so noncompliant APIs are blocked from progressing to production.
  • Works toward mandated ≥75% reduction in manual onboarding steps and ≥90% automated onboarding success rate without manual rework.
  • Maintains API standards documentation (naming conventions, versioning, schema guidance, error handling, security/authentication requirements).

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • 7 years of experience performing similar duties to this role
  • Experience designing, developing, validating, and maintaining secure EAG/API-gateway automation workflows, configuration-as code, developer portal integrations, and reusable API lifecycle capabilities within Government-approved CI/CD environments.

  • MBI is preferred

LOCATION
