Job description

Summary

The Electrician is a licensed, skilled trades person who receives directions from a Master Electrician or the Manager of Facilities Maintenance. The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading electrical systems throughout the Ark Encounter and the associated facilities. This position supports daily campus operations by ensuring electrical infrastructure, emergency power systems, lighting, and related equipment to remain safe, reliable, and compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

The Electrician works independently and as part of the Facilities Maintenance team to complete preventive maintenance, respond to service requests, support construction and renovation projects, and assist with emergency repairs. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety while maintaining a high standard of workmanship and professionalism.

They must possess the ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining pleasant, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail are equally important, and they must work independently with little or no supervision.

Responsibilities   

  1. Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis.
  2. Create a SERVE culture environment in all work done. 
  3. Approach all tasks with a second-mile mindset.
  4. Prioritize personal integrity in all interactions and assignments.
  5. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade electrical systems throughout the Ark Encounter and other associated facilities.
  6. Perform preventive, and corrective maintenance on electrical infrastructure to maximize system reliability and minimize downtime.
  7. Diagnose electrical problems using appropriate test equipment and restore equipment safely and efficiently.
  8. Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, panelboards, transformers, motor control centers, disconnect switches, automatic transfer switches, emergency generators, UPS systems, lighting systems, lighting controls, receptacles, electrical raceways, and commercial wiring systems.
  9. Install and troubleshoot electrical systems ranging from low-voltage communication and data cabling to 120/208V, 277/480V systems, single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
  10. Install conduit, cable tray, wire, cable, boxes, supports, lighting fixtures, equipment, and associated electrical components in accordance with the National Electrical Code and facility standards.
  11. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, control drawings, and manufacturer documentation.
  12. Perform infrared inspections, and electrical testing,
  13. Assist in maintaining and testing emergency power systems including generators, transfer switches, UPS systems, and associated controls.
  14. Monitor computerized electrical monitoring, control, and building automation systems.
  15. Perform electrical work associated with new construction, renovations, remodels, exhibit installations, and capital improvement projects.
  16. Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and all applicable safety requirements.
  17. Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, preventive maintenance, testing, and repairs using the department’s computerized maintenance management system.
  18. Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, energy efficiency, and overall system performance.
  19. Maintain an organized work vehicle, shop area, tools, and inventory.
  20. Work closely and work well with the Facilities Maintenance team, including other electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, carpenters, general maintenance technicians, and other departments to complete projects and support campus operations.
  21. Coordinate with outside contractors, vendors, inspectors, and other trades as required.
  22. Respond to emergency service calls and equipment failures as needed to restore operations.
  23. Participate in department meetings, continuing education, safety training, and required licensing renewals.
  24. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS

  8. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  9. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  10. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and work on elevated platforms.
  11. Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, ceilings, and mechanical rooms.
  12. Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds independently and move equipment weighing up to 150 pounds using proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment.
  13. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, and perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
  14. Must be available to work early mornings, late evenings, overnight (third shift), weekends, and holidays when operational needs, shutdowns, special events, construction projects, or emergency situations require.

Education & Experience

  1. Kentucky Journeyman Electrician License preferred or ability to get the Journeyman’s License with qualifying experience.
  2. Minimum of five years of commercial, industrial, or facilities maintenance and electrical experience preferred.
  3. Experience working with commercial electrical distribution systems, generators, transfer switches, UPS systems, lighting controls, motor controls, VFDs, and emergency power systems.
  4. Experience with computerized electrical monitoring systems, building automation systems, and preventive maintenance programs preferred.
