Solutions Engineer

Airspace

Job description

Company Introduction:

Airspace is a tech-enabled freight forwarder that's redefining how the world's most critical packages are delivered. Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, Airspace has employees who are based around the world. Our European headquarters is in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

As a recognized leader in AI and machine learning, our team leverages data and patented technology to coordinate logistics across a global network of drivers and airlines. Our goal is to deliver those packages that are truly mission-critical in a way that is faster, more transparent, more secure, and more accountable than ever before. The items we deliver range from organs for transplant, to parts for critical machinery including grounded aircraft and highly sensitive components such as semiconductors.

Airspace has been rated one of America's best Startup Employers and listed as one of CNBC's Disruptor 50 companies. Airspace has the support of leading investors such as Telstra Ventures, HarbourVest Partners, Defy Partners, DBL Partners, and Scale Ventures. To date the company has raised more than $140m.

The company is growing rapidly and serving more places around the world than ever before. We are looking for passionate, motivated individuals who want to make an IMPACT every day to help us execute on our mission of reshaping the world of time-critical logistics.

Engineer the Workflows Behind Mission-Critical Deliveries

Airspace delivers service levels that no team could achieve on manual effort alone. Our platform is what makes that possible — a mature, deeply capable system that encodes exactly how, when, and under what conditions every order activity should happen. The more faithfully that technology reflects the real-world needs of each customer, the more our people are freed to do what they do best: execute flawlessly when failure is not an option.

We're looking for a Solutions Engineer to join our R&D team and own that translation layer between the customer and the platform. You'll take complex, real-world customer Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and turn them into precise, custom workflows inside our core system — software defined workflows that govern the rules and timing of every order activity. You'll also configure the mobile workflows our drivers follow in the field, ensuring that every customer-specified action is performed correctly, every time.

This is a role for someone who finds deep satisfaction in taking something ambiguous and complicated and making it exact.

What You'll DoPartner Across Customers and Internal Teams

Work closely with onboarding, operations, account management, and product to gather requirements, clarify ambiguity in customer SOPs, and validate that configured workflows reflect real operational intent. Serve as the bridge between what a customer says they need and how the platform delivers it.

Translate Customer SOPs into Intelligent Workflows

Take detailed, often complex customer SOPs and parse them into highly accurate, custom workflows within Airspace's core platform. Build and maintain the JSON-defined workflow diagrams that specify all the business rules for a customer — including which order activities occur, when they're triggered, and under what conditions. Own the accuracy and completeness of these configurations end to end.

Configure Field & Mobile Driver Workflows

Configure the mobile workflows that guide drivers through customer-specific activities in the field. Ensure that every required step — captures, scans, confirmations, exception handling — is presented correctly and in the right sequence, so that what happens on the ground matches exactly what the customer expects.

Maintain, Test, and Evolve Configurations

Rigorously test and validate workflows before they go live, and iterate as customer requirements change over time. Catch edge cases before they become field problems, and continuously improve the reliability of the configurations you own.

Build for Scale and Reuse

Identify common patterns across customers and verticals, and design reusable workflow components and templates that reduce configuration time and increase consistency. Help shape the tooling, standards, and best practices that make workflow configuration faster and more reliable as Airspace scales.

Measure and Drive Workflow Impact

Own the metrics that prove your configurations are working as intended. Track how faithfully operations adhere to the workflows you've built — surfacing where reality diverges from the configured procedure and feeding that back into better configurations. Drive up the share of orders that run on auto-pilot, where the platform executes the right activities at the right time without manual intervention. And monitor service levels across orders governed by Task Workflows, ensuring that the precision of your configurations translates directly into reliable, on-time, mission-critical delivery. Use these signals — adherence, automation rate, and service-level performance — to continuously identify what to refine next.

Requirements
  • 2–4+ years of experience in solutions engineering, implementation, systems configuration, business analysis, or a comparable role that bridges customer requirements and a technical platform.
  • A proven background taking complicated SOPs and parsing them into actionable process flow diagrams or structured workflows is highly desired.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail — you naturally bring structure to complexity and don't let edge cases slip through.
  • Experience governing processes that encourages adoption without proliferation
  • Comfort working with structured data and configuration logic (e.g., JSON, rules engines, conditional/branching logic). You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be able to read, reason about, and build logical rule structures confidently.
  • Strong communication and requirements-gathering skills, with the ability to interview stakeholders and customers to surface the real process beneath a written SOP.
  • Familiarity with process-mapping tools (e.g., BPMN, Lucidchart, Visio) is a plus.
  • Logistics, supply chain, or operations experience preferred but not required — we'll help you build domain expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
