The Role and Why It's Important
As a Dollar Fresh, Front End Clerk at Hy-Vee, you'll be one of the first and last faces our customers see on every visit. Whether you're ringing up a cart full of groceries, assisting at self-checkout, or helping someone find what they need, you play a key role in making sure every customer leaves with a great impression of our store.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly in all areas of the store and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
  • Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the team
  • Operate the cash register to complete customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including bagging groceries as needed
  • Assist customers at self-checkout lanes and process refunds and department-approved returns
  • Redeem promotional coupons, food stamps, and WIC checks; sell and redeem lottery; process rental transactions; handle credit card charges and in-store charges; count back change and issue receipts
  • Follow all local, state, and company policies on the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets, and ensure compliance with WIC and food stamp guidelines
  • Stock, face, and rotate merchandise throughout the store and keep shelves clean and well-organized
  • Review the weekly store ad to stay current on price changes and sale items
  • Keep the register area clean, maintain adequate supplies, and report any cash drawer discrepancies
  • Know code dates on perishable items and be able to explain them to customers
  • Assist with store displays, decorations, and special promotions as directed
  • Help with cleaning throughout the store including registers, restrooms, breakroom, and backroom
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and safe at all times
  • Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
  • Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment
This is a fast-moving role where things stay busy and engaging. You may frequently work in areas with temperature extremes and possible dampness. The role also involves possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
