ROLE AND PURPOSE:
  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.
  • Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of subjects and languages assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual French or Spanish, preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program, as well as the campus' instructional framework, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Work with partner teachers to plan activities and plans to meet the campus' instructional framework and the district's dual language program model.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e. gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.)
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Implement the instructional framework and dual language program model established by the campus and the district's curriculum department.
  • Maintain records regarding language acquisition and linguistics accommodations.
  • Participate in extended day and/or extended year program activities as assigned.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen and enhance the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments, using both formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, board policies, administrative regulations, and/or IEP.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers.
  • Use various forms of parent communication and showcase of student work, including digital media.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development
  • Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in the assigned content area, instructional strategies, language acquisition and the teaching and learning process.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Expected to attend 3 days of professional development classes beyond traditional district requirements geared toward dual language education, culture, or other campus specific initiative.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional development.
  • K-3 teacher of record must complete Reading Academy per TEA requirements.

Miscellaneous
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Participate in activities or meetings to showcase the school program and student success
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, responsible and in compliance with the Professional Code of Ethics.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment.
  • In-district and occasional in-state or national travel may be needed.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Observe all safety precautions.

NOTE: In order to minimize current campus disruption, current teachers and classroom assistants may only apply to job postings if the position is a promotion. A promotion is defined by an increase in salary grade or incremental stipend. This does not apply if the transfer window is open.

This position receives a $5,000/year stipend.
This position is expected to attend a 3 day Dual Language Institute if hired to the Wimbish World Language Academy.
This is a pooled position. It is open year round even if no current openings exist.
