Job description

 Title:  Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher, 1st Shift   Req ID: 10361

Reports to:  Fleet Operations Supervisor 

Classification:  Exempt 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary: The Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher supports company operations with critical thinking and excellent communication skills.  The position is responsible for planning, establishing, and implementing transportation and logistics solutions for both internal and external customers that that will allow them to meet or exceed their own business objectives and operational goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes an understanding of the transportation market to determine favorable rates to negotiate with transportation providers to maximize margin. Builds strong relationships with all transportation and freight providers to the find the best service to rate ratio possible.  Continue to seek out new providers that are compliant with regulations and company standards.
  • Provides excellent customer service when interfacing with both internal and external clients.  Comprehensive and timely communication with all stakeholders is essential. Clearly communicates and coordinates with key stakeholders to schedule trucks and freight movements as needed; ensuring with dispatchers and drivers that each load picks up and delivers on time. Ensures that transportation providers are compliant and provide all necessary documentation; responsible for tracking and for being proactive on developing resolutions for issues during transit.
  • Primary contact for Brakebush Transportation Drivers and responsible for scheduling that effectively utilizes each Driver to maximize satisfaction and truck profitability. Execute backhaul decisions to maximize truck profitability and efficient Driver utilization. Provide timely and accurate input of data into TMW (Truck Management Software) to facilitate freight and equipment movement. Crosstrain to fully understand the responsibilities of other roles in the Transportation office to provide back-up coverage.

Required Qualifications:  

  • At least one year of experience in the transportation and logistics field.
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • A proactive problem solver with the ability to rapidly handle change in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Business Administration or Logistics Management or experience as an OTR driver preferred.
  • Strong geographical knowledge is helpful.
  • Experience with McLeod Software and PC Miler.

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: The work environment is an office environment with standard temperatures and normal office noise levels.

Physical Demands: This position would be primarily sitting with little to no lifting or other physical demands.

Position Type: This is a full-time exempt position, 1st shift. Must be able and available to work overtime, including unscheduled days or hours, as necessary. Willingness to carry cell phone after-hours for emergency contact.

Travel: Travel up to 5%.
