Job description

Objective / Purpose

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor oversees all daily warehouse logistics functions, including incoming and outgoing shipments, inventory accuracy, documentation, and team oversight. This role ensures efficient material flow, compliance with company procedures, and timely delivery to internal and external customers. Fulfills management and supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizationโ€™s policies, applicable laws, and regulations.

Shipping Operations

  • Supervise the preparation, staging, and loading of outbound shipments.
  • Verify accuracy of shipping documents (BOLs, packing lists, labels).
  • Ensure all shipments meet quality, packaging, and safety requirements.

Receiving Operations

  • Oversee unloading, inspection, and documentation of incoming materials.
  • Ensure items are checked for accuracy, damage, and proper documentation.
  • Coordinate with inventory, production, or quality teams on receiving issues.
  • Maintain proper organization and putaway of received inventory.

ย 

Inventory & Warehouse Control

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through proper tracking and cycle counts.
  • Ensure correct material flow from receiving to storage to production.
  • Monitor space utilization and ensure a clean, organized warehouse environment.
  • Manage warehouse optimization through movements and consolidation.

ย 

Leadership:

  • Lead and schedule shipping & receiving team members.
  • Review schedules to plan and assign equipment.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, goal setting, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
  • Maintain a positive, productive warehouse culture.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of departmental activities and documents.
  • Attend, participate in, and lead various meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Management.

Quality Management:

  • Oversee implementation of the Quality Management System within the Shipping & Receiving Department. This includes but is not limited to generation, review, and revision of controlled documentation and adherence to a continuous improvement mindset culture.
  • Follow all ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Generate and review areas of risk and opportunity.
  • Conduct internal audits.
  • Investigate nonconformances including incidents with damaged and missing product.
  • Evaluate nonconforming product to determine thoroughness of consumption and impact on equipment.ย

ย Health, Safety, & Environmental Compliance:

  • Assist with facility Operation Clean Sweep compliance.
  • Evaluate equipment and ensure all risks are identified and proper awareness training is communicated to operators.
  • Enforce safety policies and set a positive example by demonstrating a commitment to safety.

Training:

  • Train employees on procedures, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Perform and record training of all direct associates either directly or via designee.
  • Ensure proper development of all associates is being recorded.

ย 

Communication:

  • Keep management abreast of significant issues or developments that impact quality, safety, health, environmental, operational, and inventory management.
  • Prepare and present statistical information to the management team (including but not limited to Near-Miss, Audit Nonconformance, Elements of Risk, Departmental KPIโ€™s, etc.)
  • Enforces all facility policies and interprets expectations to achieve goals.
  • Confers with administrative personnel and reviews activity and operating reports to determine changes in programs or operations required.
  • Interface with other departments to ensure deadlines are achieved.

Minimum Qualifications / Education / Certifications

  1. Education:
    1. Bachelorโ€™s Degree โ€“ preferred.
    2. Minimum of 4 years of related experience in a similar role, including people management; responsibility to include the following:
  • Staff planning; decision-making; facilitating process improvement; taking responsibility for subordinatesโ€™ activities; provides regular performance feedback; continually works to improve supervisory skills. Treats people with respect; works with integrity and upholds organizational values.
    1. Forklift certification โ€“ preferred.
  1. Strong understanding of logistics, freight, and warehouse processes; ability to read BOLs, packing slips, and technical documentation.
  2. Demonstrates strong leadership and people skills. Results oriented with solid communication skills (written, electronic communication, and verbal).
  3. Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.
  5. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  6. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ERP/WMS systems, Internet software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  7. Capable of developing project plans and communicating changes and progress.
  8. Demonstrated leadership capabilities; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality within the facility.
  9. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and timemanagement skills.
  10. Utilizes quality system to assist with Quality Management initiatives.
  11. Observes safety and security procedures.

Work Environment / Conditions

  1. Must be comfortable working in a shared space, with constant noise.
  2. This job operates both interior and exterior of the building; the incumbent will be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  3. Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 45 hours with or without notice.
