What is a freight internship?

A Freight Internship is a temporary position, typically for students or recent graduates, that provides hands-on experience in the freight and logistics industry. Interns may work with freight brokers, logistics coordinators, or shipping companies to learn about transportation management, supply chain operations, and customer service. The internship helps individuals gain practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional connections that can be valuable for a future career in logistics or supply chain management.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a freight internship?

As a freight intern, you can expect to support core logistics operations such as tracking shipments, coordinating with carriers, and assisting with documentation. Interns often work closely with experienced freight coordinators or account managers, learning to resolve shipping issues and optimize transportation routes. You'll gain hands-on experience with industry software and may participate in projects focused on process improvement or cost analysis. This role provides valuable exposure to both the operational and customer service aspects of freight management, preparing you for a variety of career paths in logistics.

Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), Microsoft Excel, and logistics software is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help interns coordinate shipments and work effectively with teams and clients.
