Job description

Freight Forwarding Operations Coordinator

Location: Springfield, NJ
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Industry: Freight Forwarding / Logistics


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Operations Coordinator to support the day-to-day movement of domestic and international freight. This position is responsible for coordinating shipments from origin through final delivery, communicating with customers and carriers, preparing shipping documentation, and ensuring freight moves efficiently and on schedule.

The ideal candidate has previous experience in freight forwarding, international logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple shipments and deadlines.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate air, ocean, and/or ground freight shipments from booking through final delivery
  • Manage import and export shipment documentation
  • Communicate with customers, carriers, trucking companies, warehouses, overseas agents, and other logistics partners
  • Track and trace shipments and provide customers with timely status updates
  • Arrange pickups, deliveries, and transportation appointments
  • Prepare and review bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and other shipping documents
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and other parties to help ensure timely cargo clearance
  • Monitor shipment schedules and proactively address delays or service issues
  • Enter and maintain accurate shipment information within the company's transportation or freight management system
  • Obtain freight rates and coordinate carrier bookings when required
  • Ensure files are complete, accurate, and properly documented
  • Resolve shipment discrepancies and communicate solutions to customers
  • Provide high-quality customer service throughout the shipment process


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations strongly preferred
  • Experience coordinating import and/or export shipments
  • Knowledge of air, ocean, and ground transportation processes is a plus
  • Familiarity with freight documentation and international shipping terminology
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with freight forwarding, TMS, or logistics software is preferred
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven logistics environment
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills
