What does a part-time freight forwarder do?

A part-time freight forwarder arranges the transportation and shipment of goods on behalf of clients, ensuring that cargo moves efficiently and complies with regulations. Their duties typically include coordinating with carriers, preparing shipping documents, tracking shipments, and resolving any issues that arise during transit. Working part-time may mean handling a reduced workload or focusing on specific tasks, but the core responsibilities remain similar to those of a full-time freight forwarder.

What are the typical responsibilities and workflow for a part-time freight forwarder, and how do they collaborate with other team members?

As a part-time Freight Forwarder, you will typically handle documentation, coordinate shipments, and communicate with carriers and clients to ensure timely deliveries. Your workflow often involves tracking cargo, preparing customs paperwork, and updating shipping records, all while managing your time efficiently due to part-time hours. Collaboration with full-time colleagues, customs brokers, and logistics coordinators is essential to maintain seamless operations and resolve any shipment issues. This role offers exposure to international trade logistics and can serve as a stepping stone to full-time positions or specialized roles within the supply chain industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time freight forwarder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freight Forwarder Part Time, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of logistics and international shipping regulations, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with shipping management software, documentation systems, and customs compliance tools is often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial to ensure timely, accurate shipment coordination and effective client service in a fast-paced logistics environment.
