What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a freight audit position, and why are they important?
To excel in a Freight Audit role, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of logistics or supply chain processes, often supported by a relevant degree or experience. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), spreadsheets, and freight auditing software is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently within tight deadlines make candidates stand out. Freight Auditors are responsible for reviewing shipping invoices, verifying rates and charges against contracts, identifying discrepancies, and communicating with carriers or internal teams to resolve billing issues. A typical day involves managing large sets of data, updating records in various databases or audit platforms, and collaborating closely with accounts payable and logistics departments. You may also participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance auditing efficiency and cost savings. This role requires a keen eye for detail and often involves multitasking to handle simultaneous audits for different shipments or clients.
