What is a freight analyst?
A Freight Analyst is responsible for evaluating transportation costs, optimizing shipping routes, and improving logistics efficiency. They analyze freight data, negotiate with carriers, and ensure cost-effective delivery solutions. Their role helps businesses reduce shipping expenses and improve supply chain performance.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of a freight analyst?
A Freight Analyst typically spends their day reviewing shipping data, analyzing trends in transportation costs, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency. They collaborate closely with logistics teams, carriers, and sometimes customers to resolve freight-related issues and implement process improvements. Their work often involves preparing regular reports, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and supporting the negotiation of freight rates with partners. This role is a crucial link between data-driven insights and operational decision-making, contributing directly to a company's supply chain performance.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the freight analyst position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Freight Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, expertise in data interpretation, and a background in logistics or supply chain management, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), Excel, and data visualization or analysis software is highly valuable, and some employers look for APICS or other supply chain certifications. Attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and interpreting freight data. These abilities enable analysts to optimize shipping operations, control costs, and ensure efficient logistics solutions.

$30M+ Transportation Spend | 10 Automotive Brands | High-Volume DTC Parcel | Multi-Site

The Company:
Enthusiast Auto Holdings (EAH) is a highly successful e-commerce company in the automotive aftermarket parts industry. EAH goes to market via ten enthusiast-focused websites (banners) - ECS Tuning, Turner Motorsport, Pelican Parts, Rennline, Texas Speed & Performance, Z1 Motorsports, Z1 Off-Road, RCI Off-Road, Teqsport and EVANNEX.
EAH serves automotive enthusiast customers who are passionate about how their vehicle looks and performs, by providing the parts, content, knowledge and support to make their vehicle come to life. We also serve a global network of specialty installer shops that solve for customers looking for a "Do it For Me" option. EAH's leadership team has delivered strong organic growth with market-leading profitability. EAH has also completed multiple acquisitions and plans to continue expansion of its served markets via acquisition. EAH is owned and supported by Cortec Group, a premier private equity firm. Cortec has invested millions of dollars to expand EAH's operations, facilities, technology, and leadership. Among other investments, EAH has recently completed a significant facility expansion at its primary distribution center and is in the process of implementing enterprise-level ERP / WMS / OMS systems.Â
The Opportunity:
Enthusiast Auto Holdings is recruiting a Director of Logistics & Freight to lead the strategy, financial performance, systems, and execution of inbound and outbound freight operations across our portfolio of ten automotive enthusiast brands. This is an expanded enterprise leadership position supporting a high-volume, multi-site direct-to-consumer distribution network. Approximately 90% of outbound shipments move through parcel carriers, including FedEx, UPS, Amazon Shipping, USPS, and DHL. The Director will own end-to-end freight strategy, from supplier pickup through final customer delivery, with responsibility for parcel, LTL, FTL, ocean and air freight, international consolidation, customs and trade compliance, carrier procurement, transportation technology, and logistics performance management. This leader will develop and execute enterprise freight strategies that optimize service levels, transit speed, and customer satisfaction while maintaining disciplined cost control, strengthening carrier partnerships, and driving continuous operational improvement across the network.
A key priority for the Director will be to develop, analyze, and standardize logistics systems, processes, and performance metrics that support scalable, multi-site fulfillment operations. The role will also partner with business and technology leaders to implement common ERP platforms across EAH, ensuring transportation and logistics processes are aligned, standardized, and positioned for future growth. In addition, the Director will lead the logistics integration of newly acquired businesses into the enterprise distribution network.
The successful candidate will combine deep expertise in parcel transportation with strong financial acumen, analytical capability, systems knowledge, and enterprise leadership. This individual must be equally comfortable developing long-term network strategy and executing at a tactical level, including carrier procurement, rate and profitability analysis, contract negotiations, technology implementation, process standardization, acquisition integration, and the rapid resolution of service, capacity, and operational issues.
Occasional travel up to 10% to EAH operating locations, newly acquired businesses, carrier facilities, suppliers, and strategic logistics partners will be required.
Â
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Freight & Parcel Strategy and Financial Performance
- Develop and execute an enterprise freight and parcel  strategy across all EAH brands and fulfillment locations.
- Own the freight and parcel budget, forecast, savings pipeline, and performance against financial targets.
- Monitor and improve visibility into outbound cost analytics.
- Identify and implement sustainable cost-reduction opportunities while balancing delivery speed, capacity, reliability, customer experience, and network resiliency.
- Develop business cases and implementation plans for new carriers, technologies, consolidation programs, service levels, and network changes.
- Prepare and present clear, decision-oriented recommendations and performance updates to the Executive Leadership Team on a weekly basis.
Outbound Parcel Leadership
- Own parcel strategy, procurement, negotiations, contract governance, and carrier performance across FedEx, UPS, Amazon Shipping, USPS, DHL, regional carriers, and other final-mile providers.
- Lead parcel RFPs, contract negotiations, renewals, benchmarking, proposal analysis, and implementation.
- Analyze base rates, dimensional weight, zones, minimum charges, fuel, residential and delivery-area surcharges, peak fees, rebates, discounts, and service guarantees.
- Model carrier proposals and general rate increases using EAH's actual shipment characteristics and projected volumes including the use of SIFTED or other analytical tools
- Develop routing, carrier-allocation, and service-selection strategies that optimize cost, speed, capacity, and reliability.
- Establish carrier scorecards and lead regular business reviews covering cost, service, claims, billing accuracy, capacity, and corrective actions.
- Oversee parcel invoice auditing, contract compliance, billing disputes, claims recovery, and accessorial-cost reduction.
- Lead peak-season forecasting, carrier-capacity planning, contingency planning, and response to major service disruptions.
Inbound and International Logistics
- Develop and execute inbound transportation strategies from domestic and international suppliers to EAH distribution and manufacturing locations.
- Optimize ocean, air, parcel, LTL, FTL, drayage, transload, and interfacility transportation.
- Lead freight-forwarder, customs-broker, ocean, air, LTL, and truckload RFPs and negotiations.
- Develop international freight-consolidation programs for suppliers in Asia, Europe, and other sourcing regions.
- Improve container utilization, shipment consolidation, routing, mode selection, lead-time reliability, and inbound transportation cost per unit.
- Partner with Purchasing, Planning, Operations, and Finance to incorporate transportation capacity, cost, and lead times into inventory and demand-planning decisions.
Multi-Site Fulfillment, Systems, and Process Standardization
- Develop, analyze, and lead the standardization of logistics systems, workflows, business rules, and operating processes that enable efficient multi-site fulfillment.
- Assess current-state processes across legacy ERP, WMS, TMS, parcel-manifesting, and carrier platforms to identify process gaps, manual work, unnecessary variation, and automation opportunities.
- Design standardized future-state processes for order routing, rate shopping, carrier selection, shipment execution, labeling, documentation, tracking, exception management, claims, freight auditing, and reporting.
- Partner with Operations and Technology to enable inventory visibility, distributed order management, cross-site fulfillment, split-shipment decisions, and consistent customer delivery promises.
- Establish enterprise standards while allowing clearly defined site-specific requirements when operational differences are justified.
- Develop the governance, documentation, training, change-management, and audit processes necessary to sustain common standards across the network.
- Serve as the transportation business leader for the multi-year implementation of NetSuite and RF-SMART across EAH.
- Help select, design, and implement a scalable transportation-management solution integrated with EAH's ERP, WMS, parcel, carrier, visibility, audit, and financial-reporting platforms.
- Ensure carrier rates, routing rules, service levels, and billing requirements are accurately configured and consistently applied across all locations.
Acquisition Integration and Network Expansion
- Lead the transportation and logistics integration of acquired companies into the EAH network.
- Assess each acquisition's freight spend, carriers, contracts, systems, processes, service levels, compliance requirements, organizational capabilities, and customer commitments.
- Develop and execute integration plans that balance speed, business continuity, customer experience, cost savings, and long-term standardization.
- Identify opportunities to leverage EAH's enterprise carrier agreements, transportation technologies, reporting capabilities, and operating processes.
- Determine which acquired-company processes and systems should be retained temporarily, standardized immediately, or transitioned through the broader NetSuite, RF-SMART, TMS, and multi-site fulfillment roadmap.
- Establish clear integration milestones, responsibilities, risks, and performance expectations.
- Track and validate acquisition-related synergies, including carrier savings, shipment consolidation, service improvements, systems efficiencies, and network optimization.
- Develop repeatable logistics diligence, Day 1, first-100-day, and long-term acquisition-integration playbooks.
Compliance and Customer Experience
- Provide enterprise governance for HTS classification, customs documentation, country-of-origin requirements, import compliance, and record retention.
- Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, IATA, IMDG, carrier, and hazardous-material transportation requirements.
- Oversee hazardous-material certifications, recurrent training, documentation, and shipping procedures.
- Partner with Customer Experience, Operations, Technology, and e-commerce teams to improve tracking, delivery visibility, estimated-delivery accuracy, proactive exception communication, and claims resolution.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for late, lost, misrouted, and damaged shipments.
Requirements
- 10 or more years of progressive transportation, logistics, or supply-chain experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
- Deep experience managing high-volume parcel transportation in a DTC, e-commerce, retail, distribution, fulfillment, or third-party logistics environment.
- Demonstrated success leading parcel RFPs, national carrier negotiations, rate analysis, contract implementation, and carrier-performance management.
- Detailed understanding of parcel pricing, dimensional weight, zones, accessorials, fuel programs, minimum charges, peak surcharges, and service-level economics.
- Experience managing inbound domestic transportation and international freight from Europe, Asia, or other global sourcing markets.
- Experience designing and standardizing logistics processes across multiple distribution or fulfillment locations.
- Experience enabling multi-site fulfillment, including inventory visibility, order routing, distributed fulfillment, standardized carrier selection, and consistent shipment execution.
- Experience implementing or optimizing TMS, ERP, WMS, parcel-shipping, rate-shopping, freight-audit, or transportation-visibility platforms.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, data-visualization, and executive-presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of HTS classification, customs compliance, import requirements, and hazardous-material transportation.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence teams across a multi-site, multi-brand, or matrixed organization.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, business, finance, engineering, analytics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
