Freelancer Editor information

What does a freelancer editor do?

A freelancer editor reviews and improves written content for clients on a contract or project basis rather than as a full-time employee. Their responsibilities can include correcting grammar and spelling, restructuring sentences, enhancing clarity, and ensuring consistency with style guides. Freelance editors work on a variety of materials such as books, articles, websites, and marketing materials, often collaborating remotely with writers or publishers. They may also offer specialized editing services such as copyediting, proofreading, or substantive editing depending on the needs of each project.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a freelancer editor?

To thrive as a Freelancer Editor, you need excellent language proficiency, attention to detail, and a strong grasp of grammar, style, and punctuation, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word's Track Changes, and style guides like APA or Chicago Manual of Style is typically required. Strong time management, communication, and client collaboration skills help editors stand out in a competitive freelance market. These abilities ensure high-quality deliverables, client satisfaction, and the ability to meet deadlines in a flexible and remote work environment.

How does a freelancer editor manage client expectations and project deadlines when working with multiple clients?

Freelancer Editors often juggle several projects at once, making strong communication and organizational skills essential. They usually set clear expectations upfront by outlining timelines, deliverables, and revision policies in contracts or emails. Regular check-ins and progress updates help maintain transparency with clients and allow for early identification of potential delays or changes. Most editors use project management tools or calendars to track deadlines and prioritize tasks, ensuring high-quality work is delivered on time.

What is the difference between Freelancer Editor vs Content Writer?

Job description

Description:

We are ERock!

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates its highly flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce costs and decrease carbon footprint.

At ERock our backup generators ensure that customers will never be without power, allowing their business to operate normally when there is an outage in the area. Our innovative approach provides customers with highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a Creative Director to be the hands-on creative engine for our marketing team. This is a doer role: you’ll personally produce the work rather than oversee a large internal team. You’ll also manage outside agencies and freelancers when projects call for extra capacity. The ideal candidate has spent years in agency environments working on recognizable brands, knows how to move fast without sacrificing craft, and can shift between a board-level presentation in the morning and a video edit from a trade show in the afternoon.

You’ll work closely with the CMO and other executives to maintain a consistent, polished visual identity across every format the company touches: investor and sales presentations, marketing collateral, the website and digital properties, and live events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design presentations for investor relations, sales, and internal communications, translating dense or technical content into clear, well-built decks
  • Produce marketing materials including sales collateral, one-pagers, brochures, and digital ad assets
  • Maintain and evolve brand guidelines, and act as the internal check on visual consistency across teams
  • Bring an enthusiasm for and understanding of AI tools to improve the creative workflow process
  • Lead the visual execution of events: trade show booths, signage, environmental graphics, and swag
  • Partner with corporate communications, technical writing and growth marketing to develop campaigns and materials
  • Oversee website and digital design work, including landing pages, email templates, and campaign assets
  • Manage video editing for corporate communications, social content, and event recap reels
  • Brief and manage outside agencies and freelancers on overflow or specialized projects such as photography shoots, video edits and website design
  • Partner directly with the CMO and executive team on high-visibility, fast-turnaround projects
Requirements:

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional design experience, including time at an agency working on well-known, established brands
  • A portfolio showing strong, versatile work across presentations, print, digital, and web
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere) and Figma; strong PowerPoint or Keynote skills
  • The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects at once, and execute without heavy creative direction from others
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the Houston or Austin area. ERock has a 2 day remote / 3 day in office-policy. An Austin based candidate will require 2 days per week in office with overnight accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing for an investor or public-company audience
  • Background in energy, industrial, or infrastructure sectors
  • Motion graphics or animation skills
  • Shoot and edit photography for corporate, event, and facility use
  • Video editing proficiency (Premiere Pro or equivalent) for short-form corporate and social content

Benfits:

  • Competitive Pay
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription Drug Insurance
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution
  • Wellness Programs and Incentives
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan & Company Match
  • Paid Time Off – Sick & Vacation Time
  • Paid Holidays
  • Hybrid Work Schedule!
