Freelance Wireless Design Engineer information

What is the difference between Freelance Wireless Design Engineer vs Wireless Systems Engineer?

AspectFreelance Wireless Design EngineerWireless Systems Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires a degree in electrical engineering or related field, certifications like CWNE are a plusRequires a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related, with certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentIndependent, project-based, often remote or on-site at client locationsFull-time, in-house or corporate office, or on-site at client sites
Employer & Industry UsageFreelance consultants working across various industries like telecom, IoT, and enterpriseEmployers include telecom companies, network providers, and large enterprises

While both roles involve wireless technology, a Freelance Wireless Design Engineer typically works independently on specific projects, focusing on designing wireless systems for diverse clients. In contrast, a Wireless Systems Engineer is usually employed full-time within an organization, managing and optimizing wireless networks internally or for clients. The key differences lie in work setting, employment status, and project scope.

Meet the Team
The AMS team is responsible for developing and delivering various analog/mixed-signal blocks that are integrated into multiple SoCs, targeted for several projects the team is working on simultaneously. The development of the blocks includes ADCs, DACs, DC/DC converters (buck/boost topologies), comparators, temperature sensors, on-chip sensing circuits, LDOs, GPIOs, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Analog/mixed-signal circuit design, analysis, and implementation (including architecture definition, schematic entry, simulation, layout supervision, etc.).
  • Laboratory measurements and validation of ICs.
  • Assistance with the development of efficient production tests and customer support.

Desired Skills and Experience
Education Requirements
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent training and 5+ years of analog/mixed-signal design experience developing mixed-signal ICs.
  • An advanced degree may reduce the minimum experience required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Strong motivation to contribute to all aspects of chip design from conceptualization to release to mass production.
  • Experience with analog IC circuit design in a CAD environment.
  • Strong knowledge of analog/mixed-signal circuit concepts, simulation, and testing techniques.
  • Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills, positive attitude, and willingness to work on a team as a technical leader and mentor to junior members.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX, Matlab, and circuit simulation tools.

Additional skills (one or more of these are highly desirable)
  • Experience/knowledge of analog/mixed-signal circuits used in IoT ICs (e.g., data converters, oscillators, integrated power management, etc.).
  • Experience leading other analog/mixed-signal designers, either formally or informally.
  • Low power design and implementation techniques.
  • Experience with IC design at advanced technology nodes.
  • Competence in behavioral modeling (e.g. Verilog, VerilogA) and high-level languages (e.g. Matlab, C), scripting languages (e.g. Tcl, Perl, SKILL).
  • Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) powered tools and technologies used to enhance productivity, analysis, and decision-making.
