Job description

Description

This position assists the Office of Marketing and Communications with photography of events. The occasional photography assignments make this similar to a freelance position. 

The Office of Marketing and Communications tells the stories of Messiah University and designs The Bridge magazine, prospective student materials and many publications that are sent off campus, the University website and official social media channels. Student photos are featured prominently throughout these marketing pieces.

In addition to photography, this role may support basic, short-form videography for social media using a personal smartphone, as well as light photo editing and digital asset organization.

$10.00/hour

Experience Required

  • Digital photography of people
  • Basic proficiency using a DSLR or mirrorless camera (understanding of focus, exposure, and shooting in manual or semi-manual modes)
  • Working knowledge of photo editing software such as Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop

Experience Preferred

  • Experience capturing photography and short-form video content for social media platforms

Skills, Characteristics Required

  • Creative eye for photography and visual storytelling
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills since this position is responsible for working with others on campus for photo/video shoot logistics
  • Takes direction well
  • Organized and detail-oriented, especially in file management and tagging
  • Responsible and trustworthy
  • Ability to upload files and apply metadata/keywords in the University's digital asset management system (Air)

Primary Duties

  • Take photos at events as assigned.
  • Capture short-form video content for social media as requested using a personal smartphone.
  • Communicate clearly and follow photography/videography direction.
  • Be responsive when contacted about working an event.
  • Select and curate top photos as directed in assignment.
  • Perform basic photo editing, including color correction and minor adjustments.
  • Upload files to the University's photo management system, including adding appropriate keywords/metadata for organization.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
