Freelance Assistant Designer, Girls Wovens
Department: Lifestyle Design
Reports To: Associate Designer
Position Overview
The Freelance Assistant Designer, Aéropostale supports the development and execution of seasonal apparel collections with a primary focus on Girls Wovens. This role partners closely with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure collaborative product aligns with brand standards, design vision, quality expectations, and seasonal timelines. The Freelance Designer plays a key role in day-to-day design development, technical execution, and coordination across multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify trend directions relevant to the customer and analyze competitive and aspirational brands. Shop the market on a regular basis to stay up to date on current market trends.
- Create and maintain organized digital concept/mood boards and inspirational boards
- Support the design team in creating and developing seasonal girl’s wovens collections.

- Create and maintain organized digital concept/mood boards and inspirational boards
- Support the design team in creating and developing seasonal girl’s wovens collections
- Create and update flat technical sketches through Illustrator and execute organized, accurate technical packages through PLM.
- Work closely with the CAD team to develop new and trend-right print and pattern seasonally.
- Prepare and maintain development decks, linesheets, and presentation materials like CADs and CBS sheets.
- Maintain awareness of corporate calendar and help supervisor manage deadlines
- Assist in approving strike-offs, lab-dips and other development materials.
- Assist in day to day responsibilities including filing/organizing, copying and updating development packages.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 1-2 years of experience
- Strong Illustrator sketching skills
- Must demonstrate proficiency in CAD, Photoshop, & Illustrator
- Must have ability to be flexible, multi-task and shift priorities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
