Freelance Virtual Production information

What is freelance virtual production?

Freelance virtual production refers to professionals who work independently on projects that combine physical filmmaking techniques with computer-generated environments and effects in real time. These freelancers use tools such as LED walls, real-time rendering engines, and motion capture to create immersive scenes for film, TV, commercials, and live events. They are hired on a project basis to provide expertise in areas like virtual set design, camera tracking, and interactive visual effects, often collaborating remotely with directors and production teams. The work is highly creative and technical, requiring knowledge of both filmmaking and digital technology.

How does a freelance virtual production specialist typically collaborate with directors and VFX teams during a project?

Freelance virtual production specialists play a key role in bridging creative vision and technical execution. They often work closely with directors to translate storyboards into virtual environments and real-time workflows, ensuring that the director’s vision is achievable within technical constraints. Collaboration with VFX teams is also essential, as these specialists help integrate live-action footage with digital assets and troubleshoot issues during on-set virtual shoots. Clear communication, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are crucial for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance virtual production specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Freelance Virtual Production Specialist, you need expertise in real-time 3D content creation, camera tracking, and a solid understanding of cinematic workflows, typically supported by experience with visual effects or film production. Mastery of tools like Unreal Engine, motion capture systems, and virtual camera software is crucial, along with knowledge of industry-standard file formats and pipelines. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help you collaborate effectively with directors, artists, and technical teams in dynamic production environments. These skills ensure high-quality, efficient virtual productions that meet creative and technical demands in a rapidly evolving field.

AV Production Coordinator & Content Creator - Denver, CO, US

Neat

Denver, CO • On-site

$60K - $70K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Re-posted 3 days ago

Job description

Location: Onsite up to five (5) days a week at our Denver Experience Center in the Denver Tech Center (DTC), supporting East Coast time zones.
The Opportunity
Neat is seeking an AV Production Coordinator & Content Creator for our Live Virtual Tour program, running multiple sessions a day, five (5) days a week, out of our Denver Experience Center. You'll own the technical experience behind a world-class virtual demo of our products - and you'll create video content alongside it.
This is an entry-level role for someone who wants to run live virtual tours and make video content Monday through Friday. You'll be the person behind the camera making our Live Virtual Tours happen-running the stream, the cameras, the audio, and the platform-and when the main presenter isn't available, you may be asked to step in front of the camera and host the tour yourself. Between sessions, you'll shoot and edit short training and product videos with your colleagues.
Here's the reality of the role: our tours run up to six sessions a day with the same talk track and technical setup every time. We're looking for someone who finds real satisfaction in perfecting a routine-delivering a seamless experience six times a day and bringing the exact same energy to the last tour as the first. If you need constant variety to stay engaged, this won't be the right fit; but if you take pride in consistency and production excellence, you'll do great.
This is a great first or second job for someone coming out of a broadcast journalism, communications, film, or media production program, or from a campus TV station, local news shop, or church/venue AV team.
You Will
Produce the live virtual tours (most of your time)
  • Run up to six 45-minute live virtual tours a day, up to five days a week.
  • Operate the camera on a gimbal, audio levels, and the livestream.
  • Host tours on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.
  • Keep every broadcast clean, with good sound, good light, and no surprises.
  • Do the pre-show checks, keep gear tested and ready, and know the backup plan when something drops mid-session.
  • Reset the room and the scenes between sessions so the next tour starts on time.

Present the tour when needed (about 15% of the role)
  • Step in as the host when the main presenter is out, delivering the talk track with energy and confidence.
  • Learn the products well enough to answer common questions live, and know when to hand one off to a sales or product partner.
  • Stay current as the talk track and product lineup change.

Make video content (between sessions)
  • Shoot and edit short training videos of colleagues for LinkedIn.
  • Add graphics, captions, and music, and export clean files for web and social.
  • Work from the direction provided by the marketing team and keep everything on brand.

Work with the team
  • Coordinate with sales and marketing on upcoming tours and content requests.
  • Communicate schedules and deadlines clearly.
  • Back up our San Jose and Oslo tour centers occasionally so the experience stays consistent globally.

You Are
  • Comfortable on camera and on a mic - you can hold a room's attention and stay composed when something goes sideways.
  • Some hands-on experience running live video, streaming, or studio production (internship, campus, freelance, or on-the-job all count).
  • Working knowledge of a video editing tool.
  • Familiarity with streaming software like OBS or vMix, or a real appetite to learn it fast.
  • Basic understanding of lighting, audio, and camera setup.
  • Reliable, punctual, and steady - this is a live schedule, and the show goes on with or without you.
  • Genuinely energized by repetition and routine.

Nice to Have
  • Interest in or exposure to tech products.
  • Experience with Zoom Webinars, Microsoft Teams, OBS Studio, vMix, or Bitfocus Companion.
  • Any experience presenting to a business audience.
  • A sense for what makes video work on social media.

Work Environment
On-site at our Denver Experience Center, five days a week, on an East Coast-facing schedule. Days are structured around a live tour calendar, with production and editing work in between.
If you want to get a lot of live reps fast and build a real production portfolio, we'd love to hear from you.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $60,000 - $70,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's relevant experience, skills, and internal equity. This position is eligible for our comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, and an unlimited PTO policy.
