Reporting to the Prepress Manager, this position will consist mainly of accurately interpreting and manipulating artwork files ensuring customers are able to sign-off on accurate proofs in a timely manner following print specifications for various printing platforms. This position will also include supplying files to production according to scheduling requirements, tooling procurement, color management using large platform of Prepress specific software.
Responsibilities:
• Technical/Prepress Expertise: Responsible for accurate artwork file setup for Flexo, Digital, Litho and Packaging. Includes: trapping, color correction, variable data, etc. from customer supplied files. Pre-flighting files to analyze and assess the usability of customer supplied files. Editing files on Mac computers using Adobe Creative Suite & ESKO software and Phoenix for laying out cartoons and pagination. Setup customer proofs following specific printing specifications. Coordinate with Prepress Manager or other required dept's for job specific instructions beyond what is provided by the customer. Customers requested changes and file manipulation. Some design may be required. Set-up final stepped files for all print platforms and output final files & proofs accordingly. Knowledge of the latest Esko software(s) would be an asset.
• Quality Control: Continually participate in the RLG quality assurance program within the Art Process and any associated processes. This involves participating in detailed inspections, ensuring adherence to print specifications, as well as both troubleshooting and resolving issues.
• Continuous Improvement: Regularly contribute to RLG's continuous improvement program and actively participate in implementing new policies and procedures within the dept. This includes creating, documenting, and maintaining all Art Dept. standard SOP's, WIs, and Forms. Regularly participation in the Art Dept. KPI program. As well as making regular advancements in RLG's GMG Color Management program. (ie: Profiling, employee training, etc.), ensuring that RLG excels in color excellence and the most progressive and reliable Prepress support.
• Equipment Maintenance: Participate in ensuring all Art Dept. Computers, Software's, Printers, etc. are maintained to the highest standards, scheduling regular service checks and managing repairs as needed. Some consultation with Esko, HP, IT (or similar) when software issues occur may be required.
• Safety and Compliance: Uphold all safety protocols and environmental regulations under Occupational Health Safety Act (OHSA). Conduct regular training sessions on safety practices and ensure the team complies with industry standards.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Production Planning, Scheduling and Production, sharing information on project timelines, and material requirements.
• Training: Participate in regular and required graphics artist's employee training, as required.
• Special Projects: Provide support with any special Projects may be requested and assigned by the Prepress Manager, as required.

Skills & Effort
• Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Graphics, Printing Technology, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
o At least 3 years in the print, label and packaging industry.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively.
o An advanced understanding and use of Esko software (ver.24+) is an asset.
o Must understand and have experience in Flexo, Digital, Litho and Packaging printing.
o Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform with proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite software's), ArtPro, Phoenix.
o Knowledge with EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
o Effective communication skills to understand assigned work, and request assistance from co-workers and Prepress Manager when required.
o Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
o Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
o Analytical ability and creative problem solving / troubleshooting skills are required.
o Workflow and Process Improvement considered as asset.
o Health and Safety must be an everyday mindset.
o Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs.
