What is a freelance teen computer science?

A freelance teen computer science job involves teenagers using their computer science skills to work independently on projects for clients rather than being employed by a single company. These jobs can include tasks like coding websites, developing apps, troubleshooting software, or providing tech support. Freelancing allows teens to gain real-world experience, build a portfolio, and earn money while working on flexible schedules. It also helps them develop valuable skills such as communication, time management, and problem-solving.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance teen computer science professional?

To thrive as a Freelance Teen Computer Science professional, a solid grasp of programming languages (such as Python or Java), problem-solving abilities, and foundational knowledge in algorithms and data structures are essential, often gained through self-study, online courses, or school programs. Familiarity with code editors, version control systems like Git, and participation in coding platforms or competitions is typical. Strong communication, time management, and self-motivation help set successful freelancers apart. Job description

Apple devices have revolutionized how people live, connect, and work. It's not by chance! By thoughtfully blending intuitive, innovative system software with beautiful hardware, we design and build a uniquely delightful user experience. As the System Experience team, we lead the charge in building this experience.
Help us dramatically improve the experience of every iPhone, iPad, and Mac user who wants to manage digital wellbeing - adults, parents, teens, and children. Partner with an energetic, hard-working, fun team of engineers, cross-functional teams, and world-class designers to deliver the best system experiences on the planet.
Description
We're the Screen Time team, and we exist to facilitate digital wellbeing whether you're a parent caring for your child, a teen looking to establish healthy habits, or an adult trying to be more intentional about your boundaries. We're looking for a Staff Engineer to help lead our team as it builds and ships the next generation of digital wellbeing features at Apple.
At Apple, we've created the most compelling personal computing devices in human history. We want these devices to promote the overall wellbeing of our customers - especially children - by facilitating healthy experiences on their devices. Our challenge is to deliver an experience that is simple to use and understand even as our system's features get more advanced.
As a Staff Engineer on the Screen Time team, your responsibilities will include:
- Evolving and realizing the technical vision for Screen Time and working cross-functionality to align on that vision with partner teams
- Breaking down the most complex technical challenges into the right phases and abstractions so the work can be distributed across the team
- Purposefully and intentionally investing in the growth of junior engineers
The implications of succeeding in this role are huge - together, we have the agency to shape healthy habits for billions of people now and into the future!
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Computer Science or equivalent skills and work experience
Track record of success - you have 10+ years of SwiftUI/Swift or UIKit/AppKit/Objective-C software engineering experience with impact to show for it
Stellar engineering quality & output - you separate concerns and define well-abstracted interfaces, delivering performant, well-tested, maintainable code with appropriate failure modes
Technical leadership - you exemplify "what good looks like" in code, in documentation, making and delivering on commitments, and prioritization
Critical thinking with influence - you systematically evaluate the tradeoffs associated with each potential solution to a problem, make an informed decision, and articulate these things well to influence others, driving impact
Preferred Qualifications
Customer focus - you make high-quality, user-centric product decisions
Platform API design - you're proficient at designing, building, and supporting a platform, understanding customer needs and constraints
Mentorship - you make everyone around you better and purposefully invest in the growth of your peers - especially junior engineers
Drive for customer impact - you are deeply motivated to build the best essential user experiences for billions of users
