Job description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the worldโ€™s leading conservation organizations, seeks aย Seniorย Conservation Data Analyst/Engineer to join its Global Science team.ย 

Help WWF revolutionize the way we use data and technology toidentifyconservation opportunities and measure andmonitorthe impacts of our conservation efforts. Theย Seniorย Conservation Data Analyst/Engineer will work with the Global Science team and the WWF network to analyze and maintain environmental and socio-economic data including, but not restricted to, WWF acquired data, government supplied data, commercially acquired data sets, and remotely sensed and in-situ spatial data. Theย Seniorย Conservation Data Analyst/Engineer will have broad experience with statistics, data visualization, data management, cloud-based data analysis infrastructures, and current data delivery mechanisms.Understanding ofconservation issues on global and local scales is an asset, as is experience working with multiple organizations to harmonize data and data management approaches. The key roles of the data analyst/engineer are to analyze and visualize existing data, work withย WWFย teams (including Global Science)in developing newย analysis approaches, implementย methodologies, anddevelop andย maintainย data storageย and management systems, analysisย pipelines,ย and visualization platforms.Thisย position willย be responsible forย contributing to the advancement of automated and semi-automated approaches forย efficient and responsiveย geospatial data processingย andย analysesย forย key conservation metrics.ย ย 


Salary Range:ย $90,900 - $113,600


This position is hybrid in DC, with 2 days in the office (not eligible for relocation; applicants must relocate themselves).

  • Supportย the development and application of data analysis and visualization methodologiesย and pipelinesย with the WWFscientistsand program managers.ย 

  • Manage product and projects to deliver keyย outputs includingย the Conservation Navigatorย 

  • Perform analyses for select projects; apply advanced statistical and spatial analysis and programming asย needed.ย 

  • Manage GIS software licensing and distribute software licenses to all users in the Network.ย 

  • Coordinate with software vendors to obtain and renew licenses and to handle support requests.ย 

  • Maintain data repositories, including GIS servers (e.g., Google Earth Engine, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online) by keeping software up to date. Maintain knowledge of other data platforms, including cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and cloud-based relational databases for use as needed.ย 

  • Develops andย maintainsย data storage management systems,ย analysisย pipelines, and visualization platforms toย supportย conservation data needs.ย 

  • Collaborates with WWF teams to develop and implement new analytical approaches and methodologies.ย 

  • Analyzes and visualizes environmental and socioeconomic data to support decision-making and conservation outcomes.ย 

  • Evaluates and appliesย newย developments in technology, data analysis and open-source tools for analysis and data visualization (e.g.D3.js, QGIS, AI).ย

  • 6+ years of professional experience in data analysis or data engineering -OR- 3+ years with an advanced degree in GIS, geography, computer science, data science, environmental science (with a quantitative focus), or a related field.)

  • In day-to-day work,ย abilityย to routinely automate geospatial analyses, data processing, and reporting using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, or others, rather than relying on manual workflows.ย 

    • Working knowledge of cloud-basedย platforms forย dataย storage,ย processing,ย andย analysis.ย 

    • Proficiencyย inย dataย Python and/or Rย for data analysis and automation.ย Working knowledge of JavaScript for web mapping applications.ย ย 
    • Comfort using AI-assisted workflows, including large language models (LLMs) or AI coding tools to help write code, automate repetitive geospatial tasks, or accelerate data processing pipelines. ย 

    • Exposure toย and familiarity withย environmental or spatial modeling concepts and familiarity with preparing model inputs and interpreting outputs.ย 

    • Solid project management skills with the ability to produce high quality work under time constraints.ย 

    • Conservation Experience and AI agility strongly preferred
    • Experience with AI tools in an ArcGIS or Python environment is a plus (The curiosity and a willingness to grow with these tools is important and desired)ย 
  • Demonstrated experience applying analytical or engineering skills in a geospatial context is strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed team environment.ย
