Job description

We are seeking an individual who combines deep scientific expertise with experience in strategic communications to serve as a critical bridge between complex scientific innovation and corporate messaging in the biotech industry, translating breakthrough science into clear, impactful narratives for key audiences. This role is suited for someone motivated to engage deeply with emerging scientific and medical advances, collaborate with leading researchers, and distill complex innovations into clear, compelling narratives. As a Senior Science Communications freelancer, you'll partner with a strategic communications, digital, and creative agency to support corporate communications and storytelling for biotech companies at the forefront of new modalities and transformative therapies.
We are a Boston-based agency working with trailblazers across the biotech industry. We're seeking an experienced scientific writer/content developer with a strong science background to support account teams on a contract basis. This role will translate our clients' complex science into a variety of corporate communications strategies and content.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Leverage deep life sciences knowledge to develop impactful content across a range of materials including corporate messaging and positioning, executive bylines, media pitches, scientific key messages, website text, corporate presentations, press releases, content and direction for biomedical illustrations, social media campaigns and content, video scripts and more
  • Review and edit content for scientific accuracy, clarity, style and tone, and serve as a mentor and resource for raising the quality of written products across the organization
  • Participate in client meetings and provide subject-matter expertise on scientific concepts and messaging, as requested
  • Ensure all deliverables meet agreed-upon timelines, quality standards, and project specifications
  • Collaborate with internal teams and other contributors to support content development across multiple client projects

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in scientific content development, writing, editing, and/or journalism
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a scientific field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new therapeutic areas, approaches and modalities
  • Strong ability to interpret and translate scientific data, publications, and concepts into clear, compelling, and accessible content for diverse audiences and formats including print, web, video, social media, and multimedia
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, error-free written content that conforms to internal/external style requirements, demonstrates attention to detail, and presents scientific ideas clearly, accurately, and persuasively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare companies; agency experience a plus
