Purpose

Perform the design and structural engineering services related to residential and commercial land development projects.


Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive administrative supervision with assignments given only in terms of broad general objectives and limits. Apply expert-level technical knowledge and experience to assignments. Maintain quality control and quality assurance of work produced by staff.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Responsible for business development activities for current and prospective clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Act as advisor to engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations

Do the Work

  • Serve as senior technical consultant to individuals within and outside the organization.
  • Initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies, which require skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
  • Create and analyze processes, systems and programs related to civil and/or structural engineering field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering complexities, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities.
  • May plan, organize, and supervise work of staff/junior engineers or technicians.
  • Offer technical guidance, review progress, and advise procedural changes as required.
  • Coordinate the preparation of or develop engineering plans and specifications, coordinate required advertising for bids, review bids and make necessary recommendations based on bids, competency of vendors and consultants and the selection criteria.
  • Oversee assigned projects to ensure compliance with time and budget parameters for the project.
  • Review project development plans for compliance with codes, regulations and standards, adequacy of applications for permits and compliance with approved plans.
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering required at the time of employment. MS Degree preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of engineering experience in the structural industry to include project management, staff supervision and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer applications and design software such as STAAD, RISA 3D, EnerCalc, AutoCAD, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience with applicable structural codes.ย 
  • Demonstrated experience with reading construction plans and shop drawings.ย
