Description
Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a search for Adjunct Professors of Design, in the Department of Design, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The assignment commences academic year 2025-2026, and subsequent assignments are determined on a semester by semester basis since our needs for adjunct faculty vary from semester to semester, but typically include:
  • Design Fundamentals: 2D design, Drawing, Design & Color, Design Methods, Design History
  • Intro. to Graphic Design
  • Intro. to Typography, Intermediate Typography
  • Print Production, Layout & Color Separations
  • Packaging, 3D Design
  • Corporate Identity, Branding
  • Research Methods
  • Design Seminars

Winthrop's student body, which closely mirrors the racial and ethnic diversity in the state, has recently received accolades for its success in graduating students of color. Adjuncts will have the opportunity to lead students in their assigned 3-credit studio classes and have access to on-campus research facilities including the Creator Space in Rutledge and our new off-campus J. Qualifications
Adjunct faculty teaching undergraduate courses at Winthrop University are expected to hold a master's degree or higher in the teaching disciplines. In order to teach graduate courses at Winthrop University, faculty must have an earned doctorate / terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Winthrop University gives primary consideration to the highest earned degree in the discipline. In cases of exceptional and significant professional experiences, the said experience may be considered in lieu of the terminal or master's degree if the candidate possesses at least 18 hours of graduate credits in the discipline.
