What is freelance rendering?

Freelance rendering involves providing high-quality visualizations, such as 3D models or images, on a contract or project basis rather than as a full-time employee. Freelancers in this field typically work with clients in industries like architecture, interior design, gaming, or advertising to create realistic representations of products, buildings, or environments. They use specialized software to turn concepts into detailed visuals, helping clients communicate their ideas effectively. Freelance renderers often manage their own schedules, negotiate rates, and handle multiple projects at once.

What are freelance rendering jobs?

Freelance rendering jobs involve creating 3D images of buildings, products, and other items using a computer program. As a freelancer, you work on an independent contract basis with different clients. Your duties vary depending on the applications that you use and the industry in which you work. You can design products for manufacturing, fashion, or merchandising with software like Maya, Keyshot, or Rhino. If your responsibilities focus on creating renderings for an architecture client, you may use 3D computer-aided design programs or building information modeling (BIM) software, such as Revit. Revit includes construction information as well as visual elements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance rendering artist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Rendering Artist, you need strong expertise in 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering, often supported by a degree in design, architecture, or related fields. Proficiency with software like 3ds Max, Blender, V-Ray, or Corona Renderer, and a solid portfolio are typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, creativity, and effective client communication set top freelancers apart. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality visualizations that meet client expectations and help secure repeat business.

What are some common challenges freelance rendering artists face when managing multiple client projects?

Freelance rendering artists often juggle overlapping deadlines, diverse client expectations, and varying project requirements. Effective time management and clear communication are essential for balancing workloads and avoiding misunderstandings. Additionally, freelancers may encounter technical challenges, such as adapting to different software or hardware preferences specified by clients. Building a solid workflow and setting clear project milestones can help mitigate these challenges and ensure consistent, high-quality results.

What is the difference between Freelance Rendering vs 3D Rendering Artist?

Freelance Rendering involves independently creating visualizations for various clients, often working remotely and managing multiple projects. A 3D Rendering Artist may work within a studio or as a contractor, focusing on producing high-quality renders for specific industries. Both roles require strong software skills and portfolios, but Freelance Renderers often handle diverse projects across industries, while 3D Rendering Artists may have more specialized or consistent employment settings.

Is 3D rendering a good job?

Freelance rendering as a job involves creating 3D visualizations for clients across various industries, often requiring skills in software like Blender, 3ds Max, or Maya. It offers flexible schedules and the potential for remote work, but income can vary based on experience, project complexity, and client demand.

As a Designer on the Havenly platform you'll get access to our technology and our support services (scheduling, ordering, invoicing, vendor mgmt) so you can solely focus on exceeding your client's needs with a great experience and beautiful designs to create homes that they love.
This is a freelance Interior Designer position, working locally with clients in NYC Proper.
Work with Local Interior Design Clients
  • Collaborate with residential NYC-area clients through virtual and in-home meetings to understand their design preferences, needs, and budget.
  • Lead the design process with clients, including development of a mood board, design concept, floor plan, and 3D rendering.
  • Source furniture & decor on Havenly's platform, where clients can checkout for all our vendor partners in one cart.
  • Grow deep client relationships to drive repeat and referral business.

What we Look For:
  • A degree in Interior Design from an accredited program or university is preferred.
  • 3+ years of working as an interior designer and with your own clients in-person and/or virtually.
  • An industry-professional presence - You engage your clients through confident, knowledgeable, and clear communication style.
  • Tech-savviness - Designers must be comfortable using online technologies to create concept boards, 3D renderings, floorplans, presentations and communications. In addition, must be comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies quickly.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or Canva is required; Designers should be comfortable layering images and using functionality such as the background remover.
  • A high degree of passion, drive and knowledge to achieve the best possible creative results.
  • A small business mindset; you understand how to drive projects forward, and convert beautiful designs into sales.
  • A high level of product knowledge across many vendors, categories, and price points, to quickly be able to source furnishing and decor that are the best match for your client.
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from client meetings, a computer with video conferencing capabilities, and current Photoshop license or Canva account.

Additional Details:
  • This is a freelance contract role for Interior Designers who are based in New York City.
  • You must have a personal computer with up-to-date macOS Big Sur or Windows versions 10 or 11 to work on the Havenly platform.
  • Compensation includes a combination of pay per project + commission + bonus.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
