What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Remote Researcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Remote Researcher, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in research methods or relevant academic qualifications. Familiarity with online databases, research management tools, and data analysis software is typically required. Excellent written communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for success in independent, deadline-driven projects. These abilities ensure the delivery of high-quality, accurate research tailored to client needs while working autonomously.

How do Freelance Remote Researchers typically manage client expectations and communication while working independently?

Freelance Remote Researchers often work with multiple clients across different time zones and industries, which makes clear and proactive communication essential. They usually set expectations by establishing project milestones, regular updates, and preferred communication channels at the outset. Successful freelancers also use project management tools to track deliverables and ensure transparency throughout the project.

Job description

Data Security & DLP Analyst

$38-60/hr Remote Freelance CODING

We partner with the world's leading AI research teams and labs to build and train cutting-edge AI models. Now we're looking for data security professionals who understand how real-world data leaks happen and can translate that expertise into training materials that teach AI systems to reason about sensitive information risk.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your hands-on security knowledge to frontier AI development, working remotely on your own schedule.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Commitment: 1040 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Analyze realistic data security and DLP scenarios spanning cloud, SaaS, and enterprise environments
  • Classify data sensitivity levels, exposure paths, and policy violations
  • Evaluate prevention, detection, and incident response strategies across a range of scenarios
  • Generate, label, and validate data security cases used to train and evaluate AI systems
  • Help AI models develop accurate, nuanced reasoning about how sensitive information is exposed and protected

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of experience in data security, compliance, or security operations
  • Familiar with DLP tools, data classification frameworks, and privacy or regulatory concepts (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA)
  • Practical understanding of how data risk plays out in real-world environments not just theory
  • Able to clearly articulate security reasoning in written form
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working independently on task-based assignments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud security platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or SaaS security controls
  • Background in security operations, incident response, or data governance
  • Familiarity with AI training or data annotation workflows

Why Join Us

  • Work directly on frontier AI systems alongside top research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible set your own hours and workload
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and collaboration with a global expert community
  • Apply your security expertise in a new and meaningful way
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
