Job description

Position Summary This position will be open until filled, with the first review of applications on 08/10/2026. The City of Rosemount is hiring a GIS Technician or GIS Analyst to help us grow and enhance the services, infrastructure, and experiences that make our community strong. We're looking for an individual who is forward-thinking, team-oriented, and ready to contribute to a city that values both progress and connection.

We have one (1) vacancy for either a GIS Technician or GIS Analyst. Assignment will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience. The GIS Technician/Analyst performs work with the City's Geographic Information System (GIS) and OpenGov Asset Management systems, assisting and managing data requests and data updates, assisting with the preparation of reports, documents, and maps, and other duties as assigned.

NOTE: The GIS Analyst is distinguished from the GIS Technician as work is performed with less supervision and greater independence. Additional GIS support, responsibilities, and projects requiring the application of knowledge, skills, and abilities of a broader, more complex level may be assigned. Desirable Qualifications for GIS Technician Two years of experience in Geographic Information Systems using ESRI ArcGIS software suite. Experience working for local government

Strong working knowledge and experience with Cartegraph or other Asset Management software Advanced Knowledge of ArcGIS Portal and related ESRI Applications and software. Knowledge of computerized mapping techniques and relational database management. Experience with common GIS programming languages and environments (i.e., SQL, Python, Arcade, or other)

Minimum Qualifications for GIS Analyst ($41.262 - $51.629/hr) Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Planning or a related field. Two years of GIS related experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using Python, ModelBuilder, or similar tool

Valid Driver's License. Desirable Qualifications for GIS Analyst One year of government GIS related experience. Public Sector experience, particularly in support of public works, engineering, community development, or public safety.

GIS Professional (GISP) certification Experience working with OpenGove Asset Management or similar platform and advanced experience working with Esri's ArcGIS platform, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online. Supplemental Information Working Conditions Physical Requirements and Activity This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms. Sensory Requirements Work requires close vision and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.

Sensory Utilization Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data. Environmental Conditions Work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
