Freelance Protection Relay Testing Jobs in Phoenix, AZ

Our client makes low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear. The client has a plant in Phoenix, Arizona, and we are hiring for 1 direct-hire Electrical Test Technician job at this location.

Pay is up to $36.00 each hour, plus a bonus and a full benefits package. This is direct hire, full-time employment and the pay is hourly.

Overtime is pre-approved and pays 1.5 times your rate, at a plant that grows fast.

You are the last quality gate before each unit leaves the plant. This work is switchgear and breaker tests. It is not RF or radio communication work.

Schedule and Interview

This is a first-shift job.

A normal day starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. In a busy week the day can start as early as 5:00 AM, or run as late as 7:00 PM, but an 11-hour day is not the standard.

The interview is about one hour at the plant, and that hour includes a tour and a short assessment on meters and devices.

Day to Day

●        Test switchgear, breakers, relays, panelboards, and automatic transfer switches before shipment.

●        Do primary injection and secondary injection, megger, hipot, contact resistance, timing, and trip tests.

●        Test each relay for correct function and correct coordination.

●        Compare each unit to the one-line diagram, the schematics, and the project specification.

●        Write a clean test record for each project.

●        Find faults, report them, and close them out with the engineers.

Requirements

●        2+ years of switchgear test work in a plant, or equivalent electrical test work.

●        You use relay test sets, meggers, hipot testers, multimeters, timing sets, and injection sets.

●        You read schematics, one-line diagrams, and breaker diagrams, and you know what CTs and PTs do.

●        You stay in your jobs. This client looks at your tenure first.

●        You work well in a team. This is a team floor.

●        You know NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and NETA practice.

●        NETA certification, arc flash training, or SEL, ABB, Schneider, or Siemens relay work is a big plus. It is preferred but not required.
