The key difference lies in the freelance nature and focus on trading versus broader media buying responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Programmatic Trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Programmatic Trader, you need a solid understanding of digital advertising, data analysis, and campaign management, often supported by experience in marketing or advertising. Familiarity with demand-side platforms (DSPs), ad exchanges, and analytics tools like Google Analytics or The Trade Desk is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help in optimizing campaigns and collaborating with clients. These skills ensure efficient ad spend, high campaign performance, and strong client relationships in a fast-evolving digital landscape.

What is a Freelance Programmatic Trader?

A Freelance Programmatic Trader is a digital marketing professional who specializes in buying and optimizing online advertising space using automated, data-driven platforms. Unlike in-house or agency traders, freelancers work independently for multiple clients, managing campaigns across various programmatic channels such as display, video, and social media. Their responsibilities include strategy development, campaign setup, real-time bidding, data analysis, and performance optimization to maximize return on ad spend. They also stay updated on industry trends and use analytics tools to ensure campaigns meet clients' goals. Freelance Programmatic Traders often need strong analytical skills, knowledge of ad tech platforms, and the ability to work autonomously.

How do Freelance Programmatic Traders typically collaborate with clients and other stakeholders to ensure campaign success?

Freelance Programmatic Traders often work closely with clients, media buyers, and creative teams to align campaign objectives, set KPIs, and optimize ad placements in real time. Communication is usually conducted through regular virtual meetings, detailed reporting, and shared dashboards to keep all parties informed of campaign performance. Successful freelancers proactively suggest optimizations and remain flexible to client feedback, ensuring campaigns achieve desired outcomes while maintaining transparency. Building strong relationships and clear communication channels is key to long-term project success.

Job description

About Polymarket
Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform. We enable individuals to express views on real-world events by trading on outcomes across politics, economics, sports, culture, and current affairs. Built as a peer-to-peer marketplace with no centralized "house," Polymarket aggregates diverse opinions into transparent, market-based probabilities that reflect collective expectations about the future.
We're growing fast - both in terms of volume ($21B traded in 2025) and adoption as an alternative news source. Our ambition is to become a ubiquitous beacon of truth in global media and we need your help adding fuel to the fire.
About the Role
Polymarket is looking for a freelance Junior Designer to own ad creative at the intersection of performance marketing and brand. You'll ship creative across social and programmatic and support the wider design team on the decks, templates, and digital assets behind everything Polymarket puts into the world. This is a high-output role: you'll produce dozens of creative variants a week, see them through to launch, and keep the bar high across every asset that ships.
This is a freelance engagement based out of our NYC office, with the expectation of regular in-person collaboration 3-5 days each week.
What You'll Do
  • Design and ship static, motion, and short-form video ads across paid social, display, and emerging channels
  • Iterate quickly on creative concepts based on what's working, and see assets through from brief to launch
  • Build and maintain creative templates and systems that help the team move at volume without losing quality or brand integrity
  • Turn real-time market moments and news into ad creative within hours
  • Partner with growth marketers, copywriters, and brand designers to test hooks, formats, and angles
  • Keep a pulse on what's happening culturally and bring fresh references back to the team

What We're Looking For
  • 1-3 years of design experience (in-house, agency, or freelance) with a portfolio showing shipped work at volume - paid social, motion, or performance-led design strongly preferred
  • Fluent in Figma and confident in After Effects, Premiere, or CapCut (or equivalent motion tools)
  • Understand performance marketing well enough to talk shop with growth marketers - you know what a hook is, why a thumb-stop matters, and how creative drives CAC
  • Move fast, take feedback well, and don't get precious about work that needs to be tested, killed, or remade
  • Strong opinions about craft but stronger instincts about what converts
  • NYC-based and available to work 3-5 days out of our office with consistent weekly hours and quick turnarounds
  • (Plus) Interest in prediction markets, politics, finance, or internet culture

Compensation
  • Competitive hourly or project-based rate, commensurate with experience
  • This is a freelance/contract engagement - benefits such as health insurance and 401k are not included
