What are freelance production assistants?

Freelance production assistants (PAs) are professionals who work on a temporary or project-by-project basis to support film, television, commercial, or live event productions. Their responsibilities can include setting up equipment, managing paperwork, coordinating schedules, and assisting various departments on set. Unlike staff PAs, freelancers are hired for specific shoots or periods and may work with multiple companies throughout the year. This flexibility allows them to gain diverse experience but also means their work schedule can vary greatly.
